Most dog owners live completely unaware of the fact that those potted plants and the flower garden they tend so well may actually be a grave danger to a dog or cat. Many common household plants and even more common garden plants can have toxic properties that could seriously harm your favorite pet.

Cyclamen - This five petal flower is usually accompanied by rounded or arrow-like leaves that can be very toxic for dogs. The whole plant is toxic to dogs in generally, however the most poisonous part is the roots. You may notice your dog having intestinal issues and may vomit violently.

Tulips - This spring favorite can be very dangerous for a dog. The real threat is the bulb, which contains a toxin that will irritate a pet's bowels. From the start, your pet might lose interest in his food. This toxin could also depress your pet's central nervous system, causing convulsions or even cardiac arrest.

Lilies - These garden staples are most toxic to cats. Severe kidney damage is likely to result if your cat ingests its toxin, though the chemical to blame has not yet been identified.

Azaleas - Commonly found in many gardens, these plants could cause pets to go into coma in serious cases. Less severe poisoning will result in drooling and loss of appetite and may depress your pet's central nervous system.

Hibiscus - This common houseplant can lead to loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and general nausea in your pet.

Autumn Crocus - The autumn crocus is a death sentence for a pet. Ingestion can lead to serious organ damage, vomiting and diarrhea, possibly bloody, and could suppress bone marrow functions.

Chrysanthemums - These flowers are pretty popular and can be found both outdoor and indoor. They can cause serious gastrointestinal upset, excessive drooling and diarrhea. Occasionally, ingestion of this plant can lead to depression.

Apples and Apricots - It is shocking for many owners to realize that apples can in fact be very toxic for pets. While the fruit itself is safe, the seeds, stems, and leaves all have a form of the poison cyanide in them. Symptoms will include difficulty breathing, bright red mucous membranes, and shock.

Begonia - Begonias contain chemicals known as insoluble oxalates that will cause your dog or cat's mouth to burn. They may find it difficult to swallow their food.

Yucca - Popular in desert climate, this plant can cause serious bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. Luckily, the plant has sharp thorns that keep most pets away.

Chamomile - This plant is commonly cultivated for teas or as calming agent for humans, however, it is dangerous for your pet. Simply brushing against it will give your dog dermatitis, and ingestion can lead to anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding.

Avocado - Eating avocados can cause mild poisoning which lead to vomiting and diarrhea.

Garlic - If your pet eats garlic in big quantities, then it might be time to head for the vet's office. Too much garlic can result in hemolytic anemia, a condition whereby your pet's red blood cells are being broken down. You will also notice vomiting, weakness, possibly bloody urine, and a very fast heart rate.

Burning Bush - Taken in large dosage, the toxin from this bush can cause the heart problems, leading to abnormal heart beat rhythm. In small quantity, symptoms would be vomiting, diarrhea and pain in the abdominal area.

Grapefruit - The toxins of this plant, found mostly in the leaves and rind of the fruit can lead to light sensitivity, depression, and vomiting/diarrhea.

Daffodils - This common garden flower is immensely toxic to dogs and cats. Ingestion can cause diarrhea, vomiting, convulsions, arrhythmia and low blood pressure. Common as they are, it's very important that your pet stay away.

The above list is definitively not exhaustive and is only a collection of the common plants that are harmful to pets. If you intend to start planting new plants in your garden, it would be advisable to take some time to research the new plants first. Many are mildly toxic to dogs, though some can cause serious internal damage or death.

A nagging stomachache, diarrhea and nausea are symptoms that can lead to a number of different diagnoses from food poisoning to the stomach flu. Those symptoms can also indicate Colitis, an inflammation of the colon (large intestine) that can be caused by an infection, poor blood supply, or an autoimmune reaction. Additional symptoms can include abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody stools and fever. Because these symptoms can often be associated with other medical conditions, here are ten things you might not know about colitis:

1. Colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's Disease are chronic conditions that can last from years to decades. There is no known cure for colitis, therefore the goal of treatment is to keep the condition in remission.

2. There are several different types of colitis. Infectious colitis occurs when disease causing bacteria are ingested and get into the intestines. Ischemic colitis occurs when the colon loses its normal blood supply and becomes inflamed. Diabetes, high blood pressure and smoking can trigger ischemic colitis. Ulcerative colitis is thought to be caused by over activity of the immune system and its symptoms include abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea.

3. Colitis affects about 500,000 to 2 million people in the US, and affects men and women equally. Colitis typically begins during adolescence and early adulthood, however the condition can also begin during childhood or later in adulthood. The most common age range is between 15 and 40 years old.

4. In addition to a physical exam and a family history, tests to establish a diagnosis may include a colonoscopy with biopsy and barium enema. Other tests may be done depending on the symptoms.

5. Although the condition is found all over the world, colitis is most prevalent in the United States, England and Northern Europe. Interestingly, the incidence of colitis in developing countries is low.

6. Many colitis patients have been able to minimize their symptoms by avoiding certain foods like soft drinks, alcohol and caffeine, and limiting others such as spicy foods, dairy products and foods that are high in fat.

7. Colitis is not contagious. Although it can be caused by an infection that is contagious, a person cannot "catch" colitis from someone else.

8. Colitis is hereditary. A person is more likely to suffer from colitis if they have an immediate relative who suffers from colitis. Approximately 25% of people with ulcerative colitis have a first-degree relative with the disease.

9. Complications of colitis can involve other parts of the body. About 10% of patients develop arthritis and lower back pain. Colitis can also cause inflammation in the joints, skin, eyes and the liver.

10. Colitis cannot be cured; however it can be treated with medications such as antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs, and in some cases, surgery. Adequate hydration is a key element in the treatment of colitis and in some cases IV fluids are required.

The chicken pox is an infectious disease caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), which is related to the herpes family. It is extremely common amongst children, but can also occur in adults as well.

It usually takes about 10 to 21 days before the first signs of chicken pox to appear in someone after contact with another person that is suffering from this contagious virus (also known as the incubation period).

What are the first signs of chicken pox?

The first signs of chicken pox include symptoms such as tiredness, low-grade fever, and a loss of appetite. These are usually the earliest signs of the disease that occur, which about 1-2 days later is next followed by a rash or red spots. However, the first signs of chicken pox do not always occur before the rash develops.

When the rash appears, it most often appears on the face, scalp and trunk first. Then it is usually followed by about 50-500 blisters that consume the entire body. Although many of these factors are determined by age (for instance, adults get it much worse than children), as well as how your immune system is functioning.

There are over 26 potential symptoms, here's some just to name a few:

  • High fever

  • Severe itchiness

  • Red spots/blisters all over body

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Dehydration

  • Worsening of asthma

  • Fatigue/low energy

  • Insomnia

  • Headaches

  • Abdominal pain

  • Chills

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Mood swings

About 1 in 10 children who first have the first signs of chicken pox will have a complication and will have to go to the hospital. Many cases can lead to serious infection, so please be sure to not leave this disease untreated. There are over 4,000 to 6,000 people who end up in the hospital each year in the United States due to this disease.

The best thing to do is make sure that your child or whomever is suffering from this disease is getting the proper care. A good start is lots of rest, drinking fluids, and staying away from other people as this illness is highly contagious and it's easy to pass it on.

If you have had any vaccination, then you are still not completely immune from the disease. The varicella zoster virus vaccination is only about 80-90% effective. However, if you do get this disease and have had the vaccination, then it usually will be more mild. But still, take precaution and take the necessary steps to get your health (or your child's health) back in order.

The symptoms of colorectal cancer often present at a later stage of the disease. Usually, at a later stage, it would be difficult to treat the cancer and treatment of symptoms is a part of the treatment plan. It is said that the average length of time when symptoms show from onset to actual diagnosis is 14 weeks. Symptoms are often vague and actually bear no bearing on the extent of the tumor.

Initially, colon cancer like any other orm of cancer does not feel painful or present any symptoms. Lack of symptoms does not mean that the cancer is no longer present of spreading. One common symptom during the early stages may be due to the cancerous cells eroding blood vessels and nerve cells, causing a painful sensation. The pain may increase as the tumor grows.

Oftentimes colorectal cancer presents with symptoms which is relevant to the location of the tumor. Development of signs and symptoms also mean that colorectal cancer has spread to other parts of the body, a process we know as metastasis.

The symptoms may be generalized, or localized usually at the place of the tumor. The most unpleasant location that tumor my present itself is the anus. This may result in changes in bowel movements. How often you eliminate may change. You may have constipation or diarrhea The stools may be different as well. Stools may pass as narrow width, or thin ribbons. Afterwards, there us a feeling of incomplete emptying. This is due to the mass of the tumor growth in the intestine, creating a "full" feeling.

Bleeding from the rectum may also result, which will give rise to bloody stools. Bleeding in the stools may either present as black stools or tarry stools. Black stools would mean that the cancer is present in the upper part of the colon. The black material in the stools is blood which has undergone digestion in the esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine and in the colon. However, not all black stools are due to colorectal cancer. Black stools may also be seen in peptic ulcer, so that it is best to check with your doctor about your symptoms.

Bright red stool, on the other side present when the cancer is in the lower colon or rectum. This is because the cancer invades blood vessels and undermines them, leading to bleeding.

It is often impossible to see the blood using the human eye. The occult fecal blood test is used to determine if even a tiny bit of blood is present. This test is usually included in the tests that the doctor would order for a patient to diagnose a peptic ulcer or colorectal cancer.

Anemia can result from bleeding. This makes colon cancer patients looking weak and pale. It also makes a person lose weight and tire easily. The tumor.can give rise to the anemia. This is because cancer cells tend to take from the body nutrients and other essential vitamins and minerals such as iron. Vitamins, iron and other nutrients are often needed by red blood cells, so that if there is a deficiency of these vitamins, the body's red blood cells are destroyed in the bloodstream due to the cells being of poor quality and fragile.

Once the tumor spreads and grows in size, it tends to block the part of the colon. In this case, the belly may swell and grow in size. Sometimes a tear or perforation of the intestine can occur. The pain results from leakage of intestinal contents in the pelvic area, which the other surrounding tissue inflammation and infection that results. The resulting flatulence, inflammation and infection can cause nausea and vomiting.

Fever, hormonal changes and a condition where a clot in a blood vessel blocks the circulation of blood are other symptoms not usually seen.

The info offered in this article is NOT a substitute to licensed care and shouldn't be used for diagnosing or treating a health difficulty or condition. You need to talk to your health care provider in case you have or believe you may have a health problem.

Canine parvovirus is a highly infectious and deadly disease. It can be spread to your dog when he comes direct or indirect contact with infected feces. Puppies are usually affected because dogs older than four months are usually vaccinated. So, what are some of the symptoms of this disease?

Symptoms

Dogs with parvovirus begin to display symptoms within ten days of being exposed to the virus. Also, the disease can take on two different forms, namely the intestinal and cardiac forms. The intestinal form causes symptoms such as severe bloody diarrhea and vomiting. This can quickly cause dehydration and open up the dog to secondary infections.

If the virus attacks the intestinal tract, it may damage the intestinal lining. This will lead to loss of proteins and anemia. In worst cases, the damage to the lining can allow toxins to enter the bloodstream. The cardiac form of this disease causes symptoms such as cardiovascular and respiratory failure.

Diagnosis

Canine parvovirus is diagnosed partly based on symptoms displayed by your dog. Since the virus is shed in feces, a stool sample will also be analyzed. However, dogs that have been vaccinated can cause a false-positive result within two weeks of vaccination. To make diagnosis even more difficult, dogs can also have a false negative if the test is done too late or too early in the progression of the disease. To make a conclusive diagnosis, a complete blood count is also usually done.

Treatment

It is important to start treatment for this disease as soon as possible. Treatment involves administering electrolytes and fluids to help prevent dehydration. Medications will also be given to combat diarrhea and vomiting. As you learned earlier, secondary infections can become a problem with parvovirus, so antibiotics may also be prescribed. Some dogs also require blood transfusions to deal with anemia.

It is important that you understand that there is no cure for canine parvovirus. These treatment protocols will only provide support while the virus runs its course. Without this treatment, your dog will die from dehydration.

Stomach flu, also known as gastroenteritis, is an infection of the stomach and intestines; affecting the digestive system. Usually the cause will be from contaminated foods or fluids admitting parasites, types of bacteria or viruses. Also contact or consumption of toxins that may be present in plants or seafoods. The use of potent laxatives for constipation or intake of poisonous heavy metal or food.

A child will suffer from upset stomach and cramps. he or she will become disinterested in eating and feel weak. A child may also experience diarrhea and vomiting; sometimes there will be a fever and dehydration. This infection could last about five days.

Giving your child fluids, on a regular basis, will keep him or her from dehydrating and it will stop other symptoms from getting worse. When experiencing the stomach flu, the loss of water and salt in the body is at high risk. Thus, leading to dehydration which can be life threatening to the child.

Water, alone, isn't enough due to the loss of salts in the body as well. Parents can purchase specific drinks, such as pedilite, designed to replenish the body of lost fluid and salts. These drinks can be found at your local grocery store. There are a number of different flavors to choose from and all are easy to ingest. Do not add sugar or water to these drinks, they are designed to rehydrate the body with the correct combination of salts, sugars and water. If you add things to the mixture this will delay in the body recovering properly.

If vomiting is involved with the child, you can administer these solutions a teaspoon at a time every two minutes. Increase the quantity as the child is able to hold it down. One can also incorporate these solutions into ice chips for the child who is vomiting frequently. This, too, will supply their body with constant fluids.

This procedure should be followed until the child is over the diarrhea. However, if the condition lasts over twenty four hours you should seek the advice of your pediatrician. Keep in mind, fluids like soft drinks, sports drinks, chicken broth or apple juice; though good for your family, are not the correct combination of salts, sugars and waters and can cause the condition to worsen.

Symptoms to look for if a child is lacking in proper amounts of fluids are as follows: sunken eyes, complaints of dry mouth, always thirsty, less frequent urination, and unusual changes in sleep patterns. By all means avoid giving your child fried, spicy or sugary foods during this time of sickness.

Bedrest is very important, the more the better. Complete bed rest is recommended for the duration of the diarrhea and vomiting or for twenty four hours, which ever lasts the longest. I f fever is involved with the sickness of the child, take care to check it frequently. Keep a standing record of his or her temperature every four hours. Again contact your doctor if the fever is excessively high and doesn't stop climbing.

Take precautions when preparing your child's food, always wash your hands. Call your doctor if vomiting and diarrhea lasts over twenty four hours and be prepared to visit the emergency room if blood is visible in the vomit or there is green color substance.

The doctor may take stool and blood tests and most likely prescribe an antibiotic to help your child. Sometimes there will be an anti nausea medicine prescribed to assist in the vomiting and fluid loss. In severe cases of fluid loss, the child may be admitted into the hospital and an IV will be placed into the child'[s veins. He or she will be monitored regularly and the doctor will be informed continually; the doctor will also visit the child to check the progress he or she is making and if they are responding to treatment. If the illness continues for days, the doctor will be kept informed not only of the temperature, blood oxygen levels and daily weight of the child; but also make any changes in treatment the doctor may prescribe.

Our bodies are full of bacteria all of the time. It is mostly good bacteria that help to control certain other organisms that also reside in the body. Candida albicans is one of those organisms. It is a form of yeast that can grow out of control under certain circumstances. Then candidiasis treatment becomes necessary to restore the healthy balance with the body.

Taking antibiotics, steroids, drugs that suppress the immune system, pregnancy, birth control pills and eating high carbohydrate diets can lead to an overgrowth of candida, and ultimately to candidiasis. Yeast products are among the worst foods to eat and drink. Treating it can be difficult if it has become chronic, but it must be done.

If left untreated, candidiasis can seriously affect the health. It will manifest in other parts of the body. It normally lives in the mouth, throat, intestines, genital regions and throat. If an overgrowth is present there will be symptoms which include:

Mood swings, abdominal pain, belching, bloating, gas, heartburn, rectal itching and burning, sore mouth and throat, watery eyes, nasal congestion, constipation, diarrhea, constant urination and bladder infections, fatigue, uncoordination, dizziness and many more unpleasant symptoms.

Men can get candidiasis, but women are more prone to it due to the female hormone progesterone. It can be passed through sexual contact though, so keep that in mind.

Natural candidiasis treatment often consists of a drastic alteration in the diet as well as using potent herbal remedies. Treatment can expect to last at least twelve weeks, depending on the severity of the problem. Anti-fungal medications, either orally or topically are often prescribed. Candida can become resistant to these medications, and so a change in diet is one of the best ways to treat it.

Diet

A vegetarian diet is basically what is suggested in candidiasis treatment. Gluten free foods that also do not contain yeast is essential. No sugar, refined foods or fermented food, including ketchup and other condiments that are made with vinegar. No tomato products either, as yeast thrives in acidic environments.

Also, no fungi such as mushrooms are allowed. Nuts are permitted, but only if they are in their shells. No white rice, but brown is okay. Lean proteins are fine, such as chicken and fish. Use only whole grains that are gluten free in breads and pasta.

No alcoholic beverages, fruit or fruit juice, including oranges or lemon. It appears that those who develop food allergies later in life have an overgrowth of candida. Once the symptoms appear, candidiasis treatment should begin as soon as possible before it gets the chance to over take the whole body and do some real harm to the immune system.

Discomfort can start well before teeth even come through. Just before they erupt you should be able to feel the teeth by running your finger along your baby's gums. The first set of teeth, usually begin to erupt at about six months, although they can appear earlier or later. The first teeth to erupt are usually the front four teeth, usually bottom first.

You should be able to spot the baby teething. Some of the more common teething symptoms include; irritability, fussiness, high grade temperature, excessive drooling, rash on face, chewing on everything, diarrhea and diaper rash.

There are many teething remedies. The most effective is to take your baby's mind off the discomfort. You can massage your baby's gums, using a wet finger or soothing gels. Teething rings are also effective - especially when first placed in a fridge and cooled. You can even use cold vegetables. There are many natural and homeopathic teething remedies you could try.

If you are thinking of using a homeopathic remedy for teething you should consult your pediatrician. Natural Homeopathic teething remedies include a stick of licorice and chamomile. You can also find teething tablets at your local grocery or department store and work to decreases irritability.

What teething remedy you use depends on you and your baby. All babies are different so you might have to try several methods to find the one that works best. If all else fails, talk to your doctor.

Just watch for the baby teething signs and remember all parents go through it and there are many remedies that will help soothe your baby. Hang in there, you and your baby will get though it and your baby won't even remember it.

Essential Daily Vitamins and Minerals for Autistic Children.

I am writing this article for parents of autistic children who are struggling day to day seeking to find ways to help their children. As a proud parent of an autistic child, I have spent thousands of dollars in supplements, various natural and conventional doctors and testing. As an avid researcher, I have placed forth in this article the foundation of my research to safely and naturally help you to help your children.

I accredit a great deal of my research breakthroughs to Pfeifer Treatment Center, Dr. Garry F. Gordon, Dr. Jeff Bradstreet, Dr. William Shaw, and Dr. Bernard Rimland. When starting on a natural path to help your children. Dr. Jethro Kloss one of the best documenters of alternative medicine explained it best. It takes 6 months of cure for each year of affliction when using alternative medicine. Homeopathy and Vitamin therapy may present some immediate improvements that you notice within the first month. It takes time. I have found that most parents give up on a natural therapy because it doesn't work as fast as drugs. Drugs suppress the issue and natural modalities can offer a way to pinpoint the source of concern in the body that recovers the healing process.

I write this out of my years of heartache and hundreds of hours of research. I have made great breakthroughs with several natural modalities, most of which I will present in this article.

My major disagreement with mainstream doctors and medicine is that autism is being treated more as a psychological issue. I believe anyone treating autism as a psychological disorder is going in the wrong direction. Autism is best treated as a biological disorder. Using principles of naturopathic medicine can lend more answers to this growing diagnosis.

Most practitioners and parents have noticed more success in helping autistic children by treating the digestive disorders, eliminating allergies, environmental toxins, and nutritional diet adjustments.

This area does not incorporate drugs into therapy. The only exception made for incorporating drugs is to be used for a brief time as a rescue from the child harming themselves if they are extremely volatile in nature, while in conjunction to implementing natural therapy to taper off of drugs.

Autism is indicated with altered central nervous system function and brain function. It starts with immune dysfunction, allergies, and digestive dysfunction that can onset early in a child's age. Natural modalities focus in on clearing up the gastrointestinal tract which is often a mess in autistic children.

Autistic children excrete great amounts of sulfate in their urine approximately ten times more than normal children. It is a great disservice to give autistic children processed foods such as sandwich meats, hot dogs, canned products that are high in sulfate additives. Why? Because when an autistic child excretes sulfates it also simultaneously pulls out of the body Cysteine. Cysteine is vital in producing glutathione which is essential for health brain function. Schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders are often associated with low glutathione levels. This also causes autistic children to build up and not filter many toxins out of the body.

Most autistic children have the inability to digest protein properly. This is indicated by a pancreatic enzyme deficiency. This lends a factor into having digestive and gastrointestinal problems. Diarrhea and constipation are often rotating problems due to their ability to store toxins in the body. There is also "Leaky Gut Syndrome" where there may be tiny perforations in the gut lining which cause toxins from the gut to leak into the blood stream. This is noted by evidence of lactulose in a stool test, which can easily be given to a child to determine if they have leaky gut. Testing can also show presence of protein fragments from the incomplete digestion of gluten (wheat) and casein (dairy). A comprehensive stool analysis can be done in the comfort of your own home and shipped to a reputable laboratory for analysis. A source for testing is Great Plains Laboratory.

Some of these protein fragments bind to opioid receptors in the brain. This result in highly hyperactive behavior, aggressive behavior, and inability to focus, retain memory or attention. These protein fragments from leaky gut leaking into the blood stream and blocking the opiod receptors in the brain is what drives the abnormal behaviors we observe.

Another neurotoxin that can be secreted into the blood stream from leaky gut syndrome is Claustridium. Researchers at the University of Michigan describe an interesting case where a dog accidentally ate feces from an autistic child and as a result went into a coma for 7 days. "Researchers found a high presence of claustridial toxins in the fecal matter of the autistic child."

Natural Treatment Protocol

I am still heavily researching DMSA chelation. DMSA chelation is done to eliminate mercury and other heavy metals. Even though parents have reported improvements in behavior, I do not feel comfortable reporting any research on it as yet. I had more success with homeopathic chelation for heavy metal toxicity. I will describe this protocol in detail in an upcoming article.

The best thing that can be done primarily is eliminate as many common allergenic foods as possible. This includes corn, wheat, soy and nuts. There are parents that have found success eliminating dairy and white as well as wheat flour based products.

My child has been on a gluten free diet for four years. I have eliminated all dairy with the exception of parmesan cheese. There have been some great Gluten free recipes creating tasty snacks with parmesan. I have found her behavior to be calmer and focused on this diet. Most parents notice when they accidentally slip up and give a child something out of the diet context, they observe certain abnormal behaviors return soon after ingesting gluten or casein. It took me about 45 days before I noticed improvement. This can vary based upon the degree of your child's condition.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids are a big must have. Autistic children are almost always deficient. Omega-3 is critical for normal neurologic development. Dr. Jeff Bradstreet has recomended that 1,000 mg per day is a reasonable starting dose, there are some parents with older children age 11 and up who can safely go as high as 3,000 mg.

NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) most children with autism are cysteine deficient. Many practitioners endorse this as the foundation of treatment. NAC is a forerunner of glutathione, an essential player in detoxing the important hepatic pathways. Dosage is recommended to start low at. 25 mg/day and every three months increase by 25 mg until you reach up to 200 mg daily.

Probiotics must be implemented. Some natural doctors wait until severe GI abnormalities are cleared to use them. However, Probiotics are safe for adults and children of all ages. I would not recommend waiting. The best kinds are found in the refrigerated section of many health food stores. It is important to replenish the gut with healthy flora to strengthen the immune system. Probiotic supplements are the easiest and safest way to accomplish this.

Vitamins A, C, E, and beta carotene are all important antioxidants. Children with autism are usually deficient. Pfiefer Treatment Center recommended for my daughter a Vitamin A in the form of lemon flavored Cod Liver Oil. I ordered it from http://www.kirkmanlabs.com. You must keep it refrigerated. I gave her one tablespoon full in a Dixie cup mixed with a touch of natural orange syrup (you can buy flavored syrups from your pharmacist) and in the beginning I would administer it with an oral syringe. Now my daughter just takes the Dixie cup on her own. Vitamin C I in a Raspberry Flavored drink powder packet called "Emergen C". In the beginning I would just mix 翻 tsp of the crystals with the natural orange flavored syrup in an oral syringe. Currently, my daughter drinks it with water. The best Vitamin E I have found is made by Carlson Labs or Solgar. For younger children you can break one the capsule and mix the 400 IU with natural syrup if your child does not swallow capsules.

P-5-P also known as Pyridoxal 5' Phosphate is the coenzyme form of Vitamin B6 that is more easily absorbed by the body. I am still conducting research on various forms of Vitamin B. There is an area of vitamin B research that is indicative of which form of B is best for your child based upon their condition. For now I can safely recommend pyridoxal 5 phosphate. I will produce further research on the effective modality of taking vitamin B complex in an upcoming article. Pyridoxal 5 phosphate is vital to neurotransmitter brain balance.

Zinc picolinate is needed to promote both serotonin and melatonin in the brain. Zinc-deficient children are often irritable, depressed and difficult to calm. Autistic patients are usually deficient in zinc, magnesium, and calcium. Calcium and Magnesium are best taken in powder form at bed time with zinc picolinate. I have previously written an article on Associated Content which explains the importance of taking calcium along with the best way to do it. Pycnogenol, derived from French pine trees, and L-theanine, created from green tea, has been effective in improving cognitive function and helping to produce a calm but focused attention. The best form of L- theanine I have found is a chewable orange flavored tablet created by Dr. Michael Murray of Focus Factors.

Co-enzyme Q10, and DMAE (dimethyl aminoethanol) are also recommended for healthy brain receptor function. Some natural practitioners implement into this L-carnitine and/or L-carnosine. I am still researching the efficacy o f L-carnitine and L-carnosine. I am also out to lunch on Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum). There are tests that show autistic children with having liver dysfunction. Milk Thistle is the recommended mode for cleansing and detoxifying the liver. However, I have not fully evaluated this treatment process.

Selenium can be taken in a dose of 25 mcg/day. This mineral acts as a detoxifying agent detoxification by binding to mercury by forming selenium-mercury complexes that can be safely excreted in the urine. It is also an essential part of production of glutathione peroxidase, an important antioxidant enzyme.

Putting It All Together

I have just named off several recommendations. You are probably wondering how you will get your child to take all of these things in a day. Most parents treating their children under natural protocols administer up to 30-68 various different items per day. If your child can swallow capsules you divide the dosages and choose two-three times per day.

You take can give the Omega 3's, NAC, Probiotics,Vitamins A, C, E, and CoQ10 with Breakfast

P5P, Pycnogenol, L-Theanine, Selenium, Co-Q10 with Lunch

Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc with Dinner/ bedtime.

I have broken this down considering that the recommendations made above taken with breakfast are the optimal time to be ingested and absorbed in the body.

If you child does not swallow capsules

You can mix it in a smoothie, shake, or sorbet. Most parents buy a mortar and pestle to crush the capsules ( or pin hole gel caps and squeeze out liquid or powder). They mix it in a suspended flavored syrup from your local pharmacy. Flavored syrups used in beverages ( strawberry, vanilla etc.) also work as well.

There are natural compounding pharmacies that can formulate this into 1-2 capsules for your child. However, I recommend taking them as separate components for the first month, in case you need to adjust dosages so you can perfect what your child needs before compounding the formula.

Abdominal cramps and diarrhea are symptoms that may come with various diseases. These diseases include gastritis, food poisoning, irritable bowel syndrome, parasitic infections, diverticulitis, and traveler's diarrhea. Diarrhea is a disease where a person suffers from abnormal bowel movements. A bowel movement would be considered abnormal if it occurs more than thrice in a day. Abdominal cramps are caused by spasms or muscle contractions.

It can be said that abdominal cramps and diarrhea tells us about the irritation that our colon or the digestive system faces for various reasons. It is often said that it is through diarrhea that our body frees itself from various unwanted substances. Bacterial infections can also trigger diarrhea.

In short, what we eat has lot to do with abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Eating of unhygienic or under prepared food items often causes food poisoning, irritable bowel syndrome, and gastritis. People who have allergies from various foodstuffs can also suffer from diarrhea.

Apart from the above mentioned cases, abdominal cramps are seen in women who are undergoing their menopause. This is a period of their life cycle when they undergo some biological changes and that may cause the cramps on the muscles of the abdomen. Women who are having their period also suffer this kind of cramps.

Abdominal cramps can also signify infections of the colon. This is the reason that such cramps are one of the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. However, a patient of this disease also suffers from blood diarrhea.

Quite often a person suffering from diarrhea and abdominal cramp can also have feelings of nausea. There are antibiotics that can control these cramps and diarrhea. It is also very important that one should keep his body hydrated during diarrhea.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. Lead a hygienic and healthy life style and you will not suffer from abdominal cramps and diarrhea too often.
