Although wiping the anal or rectal area does not cause hemorrhoids, it can aggravate an already existing hemroid. Hence, to prevent this, each bowel movement must be able to evacuate contents well.

In case of internal hemorrhoids, too much wiping can lead to bleeding. The bleeding may also be caused by scratches made by hard stool. In external hemorrhoids, bleeding may be caused by wiping too hard for a long time or by using a hard toilet paper. Scratches caused by hard stools are also accompanied with a lot of pain. In external hemorrhoids, wiping too hard or scratches by any other means may also result in bleeding.

Hemroids may also get aggravated due to diarrhea. The frequent bowel movements accompanied by the frequent wiping of the anal area, results in vein damage and worsened hemroids. Hence, cure for diarrhea is a must to stop the worsening of hemroids. Also, ensure good hygiene during the time you are diarrheic, by washing your hands thoroughly, to prevent the disease transmission to others.

Wiping as a Cause of Hemorrhoids: Alternatives

Since wiping aggravates hemorrhoids, you must avoid doing it. Instead, you can use a jet or shower to clean the area. Using soap is not suggested, since that would further irritate the hemorrhoids. Using cool water for washing can get some relief. However, if you can't resist wiping, you must wet the tissue paper with cold water before using them on hemorrhoids.

Here are some natural remedial measures for relief from hemorrhoids:

You can use an ice pack and keep it on the affected area for about 15 minutes. You can make your own ice pack by mixing 30 percent smooching alcohol with 70 percent water in a lockable bag.

Another method of natural treatment is to use warm water tub for providing relief from hemorrhoids.

You should avoid eating fast foods, fatty or fried foods, or too much of dairy products.

Consume lots of vegetables and fruits and keep yourself hydrated by drinking water frequently. Fiber-rich diets help create softer stool which can pass easily without irritating the existing hemorrhoids.

Information about hemroids is your key to preventing the development or aggravation of this condition. Hemroids Info endeavors to give you detailed knowledge about all aspects of hemroids.

Hamsters require nutritious food just like all larger animals but most owners do not realize this due to the small size of hamsters. Since hamsters have small bodies and they fill up very fast it is very important for them to eat nutritious food at every meal so that they do not get any nutritional deficiencies. This article will elaborate on one kind of hamster food that is beneficial to hamsters and the reasons it should be included in your pets diet.

Pellets made for hamsters are the best hamster food since these pellets are made while keeping the nutritional requirements of hamsters in mind. There are various kinds of hamster pellets available on the market and while it is possible to get pellets for dwarf hamsters it is also possible to get pellets for larger species like Syrian hamsters. It is also possible to find special pellets for babies and older (senior) hamsters.

Pellets that are especially formulated for baby hamsters are created using a variety of vitamins and minerals that are needed for the growth of baby hamsters. Pellets created for older pets are made with ingredients that are easier to digest. While different companies use different ingredients to create hamster food, some of the common ingredients used to create pellets include corn, sunflower, wheat and Omega 3 fatty acids. Some pellets also are fortified with vitamins and minerals so that you do not need to use supplements along with pellets. Some manufacturers also use timothy hay as an ingredient in pellets since timothy hay is very good for hamsters.

Pellets are usually recommended for hamsters of all ages since these pellets not only help hamsters receive the proper nutrients but these pellets also prevent diarrhea. Green leafy vegetables and fruits often cause diarrhea or wet tail in pets when these food items are fed to hamsters to often. By including pellets in your pets diet you can prevent diarrhea but you should keep in mind that too many pellets can cause constipation. You should ideally feed your pet pellets three times a week, all he can eat in 10 minutes. You should also provide fresh clean water along with the pellets so that the hamster does not choke on the pellets.

While feeding your pet food like hamster pellets to your beloved pet you should keep in mind that the nutritional requirement for hamsters and ferrets is different so you should buy only feed pellets made especially for hamsters, the two types of pellets are not interchangeable like some people believe them to be. You should also not feed dog pellets or cat pellets to hamsters since these pellets contain ingredients that are not suitable for hamsters either. While buying pellets you should keep in mind that the selected brand should use high quality ingredients and the pellets should not contain a lot of corn since this can be harmful to your pet hamster.

A chronic inflammatory bowel disease in which the inner lining of the large intestine (colon or bowel) and rectum become inflamed, Ulcerative colitis is a serious disorder which is characterized by recurrent episodes of abdominal pain, fever, chills and profuse diarrhea.

Ulcerative colitis causes both inflammation and sores, also called ulcers, in the lining of the colon and rectum. The ulcerated areas occur in the areas where inflammation has killed off the protective cells that usually line the colon. The inflammation and ulcers lead to pain, bleeding, and the hallmark symptom of profuse and nearly uncontrollable diarrhea.

The inflammation typically begins in the rectum and the sigmoid or lower colon. It may then spreads upward throughout the entire colon. However, except for the lower section, call the ileum, this disease rarely invades the small intestine. Other names for ulcerative colitis include proctitis, enteritis, ileitis and colitis.

Currently the cause is unknown, although many theories exist. Some researchers believe that it is hereditary; others believe that it is due to a bacteria or viral invasion, and still others believe it is a defect in the immune system in which the body's antibodies actually attack the colon.

The most common symptoms of ulcerative colitis are abdominal pain and bloody or pus-filled diarrhea. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss, rectal bleeding, anemia, loss of body fluids and nutrients and fever.

Patients may also experience joint pain, rashes, skin lesions, and abscesses. Typically the onset of ulcerative colitis is gradual. However, in some cases the onset can be rather severe with the diarrhea and bleeding being much more significant. Because many of these symptoms can mimic other disorders it is important to see your physician so that an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment can begin.

There is currently no known cure for ulcerative colitis except for removal of the colon. Some helpful treatments include medications such as steroids designed to control or lessen the inflammation of the colon can help to improve the diarrhea and cramping. Antibiotics may also be used to help control the disorder.

Other medications may be used to control the pain and diarrhea of ulcerative colitis. Dietary changes can also help. For example, during an acute attack of ulcerative colitis, your physician may suggest that you avoid milk, milk products and bulky, heavy fiber foods.

A healthy diet with sufficient calories and adequate protein will help in overall well being. Hospitalization may be necessary in order to correct malnutrition, dehydration or mineral imbalances and to stop the diarrhea.

Surgery may also be required for difficult cases of ulcerative colitis. In cases of excessive bleeding, a perforation of the colon or even a debilitating lifestyle impact from the disease may all be appropriate reasons for surgery to remove the colon. Surgery is generally looked to as a last resort option after all other treatment options have failed.

Ulcerative colitis mimics several other bowel disorders and must be aggressively managed in order to avoid long term damage to the colon and a significant impact on the overall health of the sufferer.

Talk with your physician today and determine the best and most aggressive course of treatment for your disease.

Baby poo is a good indicator of how a baby is tolerating feeding.

What does a normal baby poop look like?

Baby poo changes in colour, consistency and frequency over the first few months of life and is different again depending on your feeding regime.

A newborn baby's first 'poop', is called the meconium, which is greenish-black, thick and sticky. This first poo consists of epithelial cells, lanugo, mucus, amniotic fluid, bile, and water which are intestinal substances baby ingests while in the womb. The meconium poo shows baby is ready for normal digestion to begin and should pass within 48hrs after birth. A good one for the dads to learn how to change! Be ready for it as it can be a surprise.

As a newborn begins to ingest colostrum (mother's first breast liquid), breast milk and or infant formula the poo will begin to change into a dark brown colour and be less sticky. When a baby is breastfeeding their poo will progress to a more mustard colour with tiny, white, grainy seed like pieces in it. It will be a very loose consistency and can occur at every nappy change or every few days.

Unlike formula fed babies, breast fed babies should not get constipated. (Breast milk is the best milk available to ready your babys body and digestive system). All is normal if a breast fed baby's poo is mainly mustard yellow and occasionally has green specks and streaks but then goes back to being like seeded mustard.

When baby is having infant formula, their poo will be a pasty consistency and often green in colour. Each brand of infant formula creates a slightly different variation of the colour green.

To avoid constipation in formula fed babies they will need to pass a poo every day or every second day.

A baby that is breastfeeding but has top ups of infant formula will have a variation in between these two types of poos depending on the ratio of breast milk to formula.

BABY POOP THAT IS NOT NORMAL AND INDICATES THE NEED FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT BY A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL INCLUDE:
1. Green frothy poo and possibly associated with irritability, bloating, wind and nappy rash
2. Very liquid consistency with no white seedy bits
3. A formula fed baby who cries when they poo and the stool is a pebble like consistency
4. A formula fed baby who has not passed a poo for 3 or more days
5. A poo that has streaks of blood in it
6. A poo that is green with a stringy egg white consistency
7. Projectile vomiting after 3 consecutive feeds associated with no bowel movement.

Emergency tips while waiting to see a health care professional:

Constipation - give frequent sips of water, and 1-2 stewed prunes or dried apricots (if baby already on solids) or 2 tsp prune juice with 20 mls water (for babies only having milk feeds), monitor temperature.

Diahorrea - give sips of water hourly, continue to breast feed but may need a lactose free infant formula temporarily, if on solids offer mashed banana, monitor temperature and watch out for at least six wet nappies in 24 hours.

As your infant grows older his/her digestive cycle should normalise to a regular daily routine, with or without a poo where you will get to know what is normal for your child and then be easily able to detect a change or a problem. If you are ever in doubt contact a health professional.

New canine owners are often alarmed over dog vomiting, but those of us who have owned dogs for some time know that this is rarely cause for concern. It's fairly easy to tell if your dog is really sick or simply reacting to a hairball from terrorizing the cat all morning.

Dogs are able to throw up easier than humans and most other mammals. You know this if you have had the experience of walking your dog when he stops to eat a fresh patch of grass, throws up, wags his tail, and proceeds on the walk.

It is suggested that this unique ability is a defense mechanism to the dog's scavenger nature.

After eating the leg of the dining room table or the flip-flop that couldn't be resisted, their body realizes that it was not edible so it reacts by throwing up. While there are unfortunate circumstances where dogs end up with a blockage from something they ate, these occurrences would be a lot more common if dog vomiting wasn't such an easy and natural reaction.

That being said, there are also times when the vomiting is a symptom of an illness or some type of underlying disease.

Reasons for Vomiting

If a dog only throws up a frothy, yellowish fluid, he could have acute gastritis, peritonitis, pancreatitis, an intestinal obstruction or some other type of stomach problem. However, there are dogs that simply have tummy trouble that do this once daily like clockwork. Even if you think there is no cause for concern and that your dog is healthy, this still warrants a trip to the vet.

Dogs will often vomit due to stress, worms, motion sickness, eating too fast, overeating or eating something indigestible. It should be noted that if you have a dog that devours their food for too fast, there are pace bowls that will slow them down.

Vomiting can be a symptom of a serious condition as well, such as kidney or liver failure, distemper, ulcers, parvovirus, peritonitis, cancer, diabetes, intestinal obstruction, poisoning, acute gastritis and severe food allergies.

Does it Warrant a Vet Visit?

The majority of the time, vomiting is nothing to get panicked over. If you actually knew how often your dog throws up, you would probably be quite surprised. However, if the vomiting is accompanied by other symptoms, it should be treated like an emergency. Some of these include:

  • Vomiting several times a day

  • Blood in vomit, generally looks like coffee grounds

  • Projective vomiting

  • Lethargy

  • Diarrhea

  • Abdominal bloating

It is important to understand that dogs can get dehydrated very quickly if they are vomiting a lot, especially puppies. Be on the lookout for changes in weight or behavior, and be prepared to supply the vet with this information.

Treatment

A bland diet will help settle the stomach. Plain rice and chicken breast is often recommended, but if the vet thinks that there may be a small blockage that needs to be passed, bread and pumpkin may be encouraged to stimulate digestion. If dog vomiting is due to something more serious, permanent dietary changes, medication or other treatment options may be necessary.

A pregnant friend of mine was found to have a gallbladder full of gallstones. Scheduled for immediate surgery, she promptly did a liver cleanse and avoided surgery. Three years later, after doing the liver cleanse and pregnant again scheduled for surgery, a sonogram revealed that she was still free of gallstones. It was this story that prompted me to write this article about the subject - enlightening both the writer and the reader.

I will discuss gallstones in the following order:

  • Definition

  • Types

  • Symptoms

  • Cause

  • Natural Cures

Definition

Gallstones and other gallbladder disorders affect the gallbladder, a small sac-like organ located beneath the liver that stores bile made in the liver. The bile, originally produced in the liver, emulsifies fats in partly digested food. During storage in the gallbladder, bile becomes more concentrated which increases its potency and intensifies its effect on fats.

People can go for years with digestive symptoms and never realize that they may be related to a gallbladder problem. That's because they are so inter-woven with other digestive symptoms such as indigestion, gas, bloating and constipation.

Types

The most common problem associated with the gallbladder is gallstones, round-shaped stones composed of cholesterol, bile, pigments, and lecithin. Gallstones form when liquid stored in the gallbladder hardens into pieces of stone-like material. These gallstones can exist for years without symptoms, but eventually can cause blockages or damage. This can cause extreme digestive symptoms and pain.

Under health conditions the liquid, called bile, is used to help the body digest fats. Bile contains water, cholesterol, fats, bile salts, and bilirubin. Bile salts break up fat, and bilirubin gives bile and stool a brownish color. Bile is made in the liver, and then stored in the gallbladder until the body needs to digest fat. At that time, the gallbladder contracts and pushes the bile into a tube, called a duct, which carries it to the small intestine, where it helps with digestion. If the liquid bile contains too much cholesterol, bile salts, or bilirubin, it can harden into stones.

Problems associated with gallstones include acute cholecystitis, an irritation and infection in the gallbladder that is caused by a gallstone becoming trapped. Symptoms of acute cholecystitis are the abdomen becoming extremely painful, even to the touch, and fever. Recurrent attacks of this are called chronic cholecystitis, which manifests the same symptoms.

While extremely rare, gallbladder cancer is another possible disorder, occurring in only 3 cases per 100,000 people each year. Gallbladder cancer usually causes jaundice (yellowing of skin) and pain in the upper-right abdominal area, but is sometimes present with no symptoms at all.

Symptoms

Only about 20% of people who have gallstones experience symptoms; the rest are unaware of the problem. A common symptom of gallstones is pain in the right side of the abdomen and/or pain in or near the right shoulder or shoulder blade. Pain may also occur in the center of the upper abdomen, over the breastbone. In all cases, pain, wherever it manifests, is usually constant and progresses slowly. It rises to a plateau and then gradually decreases, usually within several hours after a meal and especially after meals containing large amounts of fat. Other symptoms can include nausea, a sense of fullness, belching, heartburn, flatulence, and vomiting.

When symptoms do occur, it's usually because the gallstone has moved and become lodged within a duct that carries bile. The typical symptom is abdominal pain, perhaps accompanied by nausea, indigestion, or fever. Stones can also clog the common bile duct, which carries bile into the small intestine, and the hepatic ducts, which take bile out of the liver.

  • Pain or tenderness under the rib cage on the right side

  • Pain between shoulder blades

  • Stools light or chalky colored

  • Indigestion after eating, especially fatty or greasy foods

  • Nausea

  • Dizziness

  • Bloating

  • Gas

  • Burping or belching

  • Feeling of fullness or food not digesting

  • Diarrhea (or alternating from soft to watery)

  • Constipation

  • Headache over eyes, especially right

  • Bitter fluid comes up after eating

  • Frequent use of laxatives

Cause

Toxins overloading into your system from chemicals, additives, processed and junk foods, as well as excessive saturated animal fat in the diet, contribute to gallbladder problems. If the liver becomes overloaded with excess saturated fats, the gallbladder gets stressed and inflamed. This excess of saturated fats becomes cholesterol deposits and when enough have formed, they crystallize with the bile to form gallstones.

Women get gallstones 4 times as frequently as men, especially women over 40 years old who are fair-skinned, and overweight. 20% of adults over 65 years of age get gallstones that create problems and pain. Over 500,000 surgeries are performed each year to remove gallbladders due to gallbladder disorders, the most common being gallstones.

Constipation, food allergies (especially to milk products and eggs), digestive disorders (especially caused by a deficiency of hydrochloric acid), intestinal diseases, an excessively low-fiber diet, dental disturbances, parasites, rapid weight loss, and stress can all cause or contribute to gall stones and other gallbladder disorders. For lasting relief of symptoms, all of these factors must be addressed if they are present.

Natural Cures

Note: In order to make an accurate diagnosis of gallbladder disorders, ultrasound may be required. If surgery is required, typically laser surgery is used, which does not need to cut into the abdomen, and allows healing to occur much more quickly. However, most gallbladder surgeries can be easily avoided through nutritional and natural intervention, such as the Liver Cleanse, with emphasis on identification, avoidance, and treatment of food allergies.

Diet: Identify and avoid all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive, especially eggs, milk and gluten, wheat and dairy products. Also reduce your saturated and overall fat intake, keeping it below 20% of the total foods you eat, and eliminate all processed and hydrogenated fats. But do not cut fat completely, as this can actually increase your chances of developing gallstones. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, coconut oil) are the best fats to include in your diet.

Be sure to eat less, since overeating places stress on the gallbladder. At the same time, be sure to eat breakfast, don't skip meals, and eat a balanced and healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes and other vegetarian sources of protein. Increase your intake of dietary fiber to improve bowel movements, and avoid refined carbohydrates, which can cause gallstone formation. Overall, eat less animal foods, remove processed foods and move toward a whole foods vegetarian-oriented diet. If you are overweight, lose the weight, but slowly and sensibly.

Good foods to include in your diet are black cherries, pears, beets (raw and cooked), fresh steamed and water saut矇ed greens such as beet tops collards, kale, plenty of steamed broccoli and cauliflower, snack on seasonal fruits, eat plain organic yogurt, as well as more raw foods in general.

Liver Cleanse: A liver cleanse is a common natural cure. It is quite easy. The method used by my pregnant friend to rid her of gallstones, was easy and effective.

Herbs: Combine the tinctures of wild yam, fringetree bark, milk thistle, and balmony in equal parts and take one teaspoon of this mixture three times a day. An infusion of chamomile or lemon balm can also be taken regularly throughout the day.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. We suggest several at-home hydrotherapy treatments. Please seek the advice of your alternative health care practitioner before undergoing these procedures to make sure they are appropriate for you. *Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: The following juice combinations can help improve gallbladder health: carrot, beet, cucumber, radish, and fresh dandelion roots, with a clove of garlic; or grape, pear, grapefruit, and lemon.

Lifestyle: Choose non-toxic cleaning supplies and personal body care products.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following supplements can help relieve gallbladder symptoms: digestive enzymes with each meal, vitamin B-complex, vitamin C, choline, inositol, lipotrophic factors, alfalfa tablets, acidophilus, lecithin, and the amino acid, L-taurine. Peppermint oil sipped in water throughout the meal can also be helpful.

Topical Treatment: Castor oil packs placed over the gallbladder can speed relief of symptoms.

Alternative Professional Care

If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating gallstones and gallbladder disorders: Acupuncture, Detoxification Therapy, Environmental Medicine, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Neural Therapy, and Osteopathy.

Ask yourself this question; is there a way to stop my pet's misery, biting and scratching caused by fleas without using expensive pills, sprays or dips? Of course there is.

You probably already know this but pet medicine, like medicine for humans, is a high margin item and extremely important to the profits of veterinarians and pet supply stores. What you might not know is that pet medicine, again like human medicine, often times has side effects that are just as bad as or worse than the condition they are supposed to treat.

What would you rather do? Spend $42.99 for a 3 month supply of Front Line full of toxic chemicals; or go to your local grocery or health food store and get a 6 month supply of natural flea remedy for less than $20.

I thought so.

Me too.

We love our pets and treat them as members of the family. We can't stand to see them suffer in any way. We've been taught that vets are always right when it comes to keeping our pets healthy. However, you have to remember that vets are in business and like all businesses they want to make as much as they can. Pets with flea problems are very common and are a great opportunity for the vet or pet store to make a buck or two.

So what goes into making a home flea remedy?

If your dog or cat already has fleas then try whipping up this herbal powder.

Go to a health store and get as many of these herbs as you can; eucalyptus, rosemary, fennel, yellow dock, wormwood, and rue. Mix them using one part each of the herbs. If you have an old parsley spice bottle that has holes in the cap, or even an old Parmesan cheese container, pour the mixture in and use the bottle as the applicator.

Powder your pet using your hand or a comb to work the mixture down to the skin. Pay particular attention to the butt, neck, ears and belly. A special note here! This mixture will not kill fleas but it will aggravate them to the point that they jump off your pet. Obviously it's best that you apply this powder outside so you don't have fleas jumping off the pet and onto the carpet. Give it an hour or so to work then you can let the pet back inside.

Here's another tip that works from the inside out. Garlic, which is good for everything from high blood pressure to warding off colon cancer, also works as a flea repellent. Who knew? Fleas are blood suckers and they find garlic in the bloodstream displeasing and leave. What's the point of staying on the animal if you can't feed?

You can put some crushed garlic in your pet's food or you can get garlic tablets and use them as a treat. If you have fleas in the house, do them in with Borax. Seriously. One year we called Flea Busters to do all of our carpets because the problem was so bad. When I asked the technician what kind of powder he was putting on my carpet he said Borax. I said you're kidding. He said nope.

So you sprinkle the borax on your carpet and then take a garden rake and thoroughly rake the powder into your rug. Leave it for 90 minutes and then vacuum thoroughly. If you have a vacuum bag, get rid of it. If you have a collection container, take it outside and dump it. Don't let the super fleas who survived a chance to get back in your house.

If you are like me you probably would rather use natural methods of ending your pet's flea problem rather than chemicals. I also like the idea that I didn't spend a ton of money. Natural flea cures are just one example of how you can control your pet's health and avoid unnecessary expense.

Explosive diarrhea after eating is not pleasant: you go out to a restaurant, and enjoy a beautiful meal but within a half hour you start to feel stomach cramps, and that horrible feeling in your bowels that something is about to happen!

I am sure you know the feeling - we all get it now and again, but some of us a lot more than others. The cramps get worse, and you have to rush to the rest room where you have explosive diarrhea. The problem is that you never know when you are finished, and it can be extremely embarrassing. Wouldn't you just love to have that cured?

Of course you would, and there are a few possible reasons for diarrhea after eating, such as allergy to the gluten in many foods, although the most common is IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome to give it its Sunday name. This is a condition that affects up to 20% of all Americans.

The root cause of IBS usually is not a single trigger but a complex set of triggers, with explosive diarrhea after eating as one of the main symptoms. IBS can be tied with celiac disease, which is an intolerance to the gluten protein in some grains such as wheat. It is difficult to know where the beginning starts with these types of digestive issues, thus it is a condition that has to be targeted from several directions.

Main stream medicine has trouble diagnosing IBS, because it has such similar symptoms as several other digestive disorders. In fact IBS not only causes diarrhea, but can also cause the exact opposite: severe constipation. The way that IBS is generally diagnosed is to test with very invasive procedures for all other known causes of the symptoms, and once none are left it must be IBS. How unscientific! No wonder that the best remedies for you are natural ones. Let's discuss a few alternative diarrhea cures that you can try.

1. Your diet. It is probably worth while trying a gluten free diet just to make sure that is not the cause. Lactose can also cause similar symptoms, so if you keep free of these for a week or so and the symptoms disappear, then you could have found your cure. However, celiac disease occurs in only 1 in each 133 of the population: a long way away from 20%!

2. Eating a lot of fruit and vegetables can help some people. You might feel tempted to increase your fiber intake, but that can often cause symptoms of bloating and gas. Many find that bananas can help both the diarrhea and constipation symptoms of IBS. Many people swear by them, and so are worth a try. The high potassium content of bananas helps replace potassium that is lost through diarrhea, and also helps in the proper formation of stools. Juiced greens also seem to be an effective treatment for some.

3. Activated charcoal absorbs gas and toxins, and helps your stool to form properly.

4. Garlic is useful in that it helps to remove parasites and mucus from your colon, and fights infections in the gut. It also expels gas, and a combination of all of these effects can help relieve some of the symptoms of your condition. A side-benefit of garlic is that it is also good for your heart!

5. Slippery elm taken with a lot of water can coat the colon, and treat chronic diarrhea and ulcerative colitis. It appears to soothe and heal your whole gastro-intestinal tract and help you to form normal stools.

6. Where children are involved, agrimony and meadowsweet are very useful because they are mild but effective herbal remedies for explosive diarrhea after eating, and meadowsweet is both astringent and nutritious for children.

Diarrhea after eating can also be caused by drinking too much alcohol, infections from contaminated food or water, parasites and also emotional stress and other similar conditions. An example of one of the minor causes is withdrawal from some forms of prescription painkillers.

However, most of these cause only temporary diarrhea which goes when the condition is cured. Nevertheless some other natural remedies reflect one or two of these other causes. So, to continue:

7. Stress relieving herbs such as catnip and chamomile are particularly effective in treating IBS and other conditions of the bowel, and far more effective that St. John's Wort for this condition. Kava kava and valerian are useful in dealing with general stress: in fact kava kava is increasing in popularity, and can relax you without affecting your mental alertness. Hops also help to reduce stress, but not in the form of beer!

8. Finally, probiotic drinks and supplements can increase the volume of friendly bacteria in your gut, and improve your digestion in general as well as regulating the function of your bowel.

All of these remedies are a good place to start for overcoming explosive diarrhea after eating. They are easy to try, and actually aid your body in healing, unlike many of the manufactured chemical drugs that can have severe side effects, only address the symptoms and not the root causes, and can even make your condition worse.

While main stream medicine still does not recognize the causes of IBS and struggles to give definitive diagnoses, if you are struggling with diarrhea after eating or other digestive disturbances, you can try these natural remedies since they are easy to take and give good results. They have been recommended after countless years of successful use by untold numbers of people that have gone before us.

People who are just starting out raising chickens don't always know the warning signs/symptoms of ill birds. There are generally 6 main areas to focus on that usually point to something being amiss. If you suspect that something is wrong with one or all of your flock you should consult a Veterinarian. My purpose here is to point out what to look for and not to point to specific illnesses:

(1) Chickens are active creatures and always pecking around, exploring. Watch chickens for a short time and you'll observe that unless they're resting, they're usually actively scrounging and scratching for feed.

If your bird is lethargic and not active this is usually a sign something is not right. It will look like it's cold and not move around much and may stay off to itself. A sick bird will tend to hunch its shoulders and stand with its head pulled in towards the shoulders.

If you can hear wheezing this is not normal and a sign something is not right. You may see the bird walking around with it's beak open looking like it's struggling to breathe (except in hot weather as this is normal). They may look like they have a cold with a runny nose and swollen sinuses.

Chickens should not appear to be stumbling, limping or otherwise look unstable on their feet. Look at their joints to see if there is possibly swelling.

The eyes of a chicken should be bright, clear and alert. If they look cloudy or runny then something is amiss.

Healthy chicken droppings should have some substance to them, usually brown or greyish with white caps. If it is shooting out like water, greeny-yellow diarrhea, white or bloody diarrhea or is pasting to the rear end then consult a veterinarian.

Most of all look at the overall appearance. Its skin should be clean and soft - no sores, scabs or lumps. The legs should be clean and waxy-looking - legs should not look scaly. Chickens should look curious, alert and active. If it seems droopy, disinterested, lethargic or goes off by itself - This should a red flag that something is wrong.

Although this is not all the symptoms you might see, it does outline the most common that you may see and will give you a good idea of what to keep an eye out for when it comes to your flock's health.

In the United States alone, 1.4 million people are diagnosed with salmonella food poisoning and about one thousand of these cases lead to death. Most of these incidents happen from unclean and unsanitary practices at home. This article will discuss some of the symptoms of salmonella and what you can do to protect yourself and your family.

Salmonella is a bacteria that attacks the stomach and intestines. In serious cases, salmonella may go into the lymph tracts and blood. Normally, children and the elderly are the people whom this bacteria seriously hurt, but people of all ages can be affected by it. Most of the symptoms are diarrhea or constipation, stomach cramps, headaches, fever, nausea and vomiting, and possibly blood in the feces. Dehydration can also occur from the vomiting and diarrhea. If the diarrhea lasts more than 24 hours and is frequent and intense, or there is blood in the feces, a person needs to contact a doctor right away.

Some ways to reduce the chance of bacteria like salmonella from hurting your family is to always wash and dry hands after going to the bathroom and before preparing any food. If you are using a knife to cut meat, always wash it or exchange it for a clean one before cutting vegetables or fruit. Whether a person uses a plastic cutting board or a butcher block cutting board to cut meat doesn't matter. What matters is that the board is washed or changed for a different one, before a person cuts other food. A person should also change the dishcloths out every day and wash the dishcloths in hot water and an antibacterial soap. Always store food like meat, poultry, and fish in the refrigerator. Bacteria will easily grow on these foods if they are left out for long periods of time.

When cooking food, it is important to cook it thoroughly, as heat is the only way to kill the salmonella bacteria. Don't crack any eggs on the edge of a bowl. Salmonella only exist on the shell and it can contaminate other foods in the bowl.
