For thousands of years, green tea has been a natural way to cure many different ailments. The Chinese have been using it to cure everything from indigestion to toothaches. In the past decade, it has become a popular weight loss supplement.

One of the greatest benefits of green tea is that it is all natural. It can be combined with herbs to cure different ailments. Many people have sworn by the healing properties of this beverage and use little else to cure themselves.

Although this drink is not approved by the FDA yet, many people are still avid users. Before the FDA gives its seal of approval, the product has to undergo rigorous tests to find out what the short term and long term side affects will be.

As with any other kind of tea, most green teas contain caffeine. Although there is really no documentation to support the claim of weight loss benefits, millions of people, including the Chinese, state that this product does assist in weight loss. However, those in the medical field state that green tea can cause vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea and bloating in some people.

Green tea can be found in health and nutrition stores as well a natural food stores. It can be sold in tea form or in a capsule. Although it may have a few downsides, and many people claim that it cannot assist in weight loss, it is still becoming the fastest selling tea on the market today.

Experts recommend that along with this green beverage, lifestyle changes need to be made. These changes should include a well balanced diet and exercise. If you do not have time to join a local fitness center, you can create your own exercise routine. If you choose the latter, it is important that you consult a fitness trainer to create a program that is right for you.

Before you make your decision to use this drink or pill as a weight loss supplement, it is important that you obtain as much information as possible. There will be conflicting information, however you need to decide what is best for you. One way to do this is to use the Internet. Here you will find millions of links to sites that contain information regarding this topic.

Check sites that contain articles and dietary information, and make sure that the site is somewhat neutral. All you want are the facts and nutritional value and you should use sites that you trust, and not just a site titled Green Tea.

Before the government approves this tea as a weight loss substance, further tests need to be conducted. For the time being, it must be sold as a dietary supplement and not as a weight loss product. Other supplements that are sold as weight loss products contain gululipids, chromium, hydrocitric acid, and other ingredients that are natural and synthetic.

There are hundreds of weight loss aids and diet pills on the market today. Most contain vitamins and mineral to some extent, however it is important that you get the recommended daily allowance of these substances, ensuring you are getting a balanced diet.

Using green tea as a weight loss supplement has its good and bad points. Reading all the information that you can find will only benefit you. Another recommendation is that you should consult your physician and speak to him or her about the pros and cons of using it in your weight loss plan. Your doctor is best suited to answer any questions and concerns that you may have. Consulting an herb specialist is also an option, however, they tend to reside in other countries and very few are in the United States.

B vitamins were once thought of as a single vitamin called Vitamin B. After much research, we discovered there are actually 8 distinct vitamins. Further research has also concluded that B vitamins are water soluble, which means that they are easily excreted out of the body and therefore must be consistently consumed through our diet. B Vitamins have often been the talk of supplementation over the years because of the essential role it plays in the metabolic process. B Vitamins are essential in functions such as increasing the rate of metabolism, maintaining healthy skin and muscle tone, enhancing immune and nervous system functions and promoting cell growth and division. Each B Vitamin has a specific function within the metabolic process.

Vitamin B1 -  Vitamin B1 is also known as Thiamine. Thiamine is essential in healthy brain function and as well as metabolism of carbohydrates. Thiamine deficiencies can cause a disease called Beriberi, which is a disease of the nerve and heart. Symptoms of this disease is weight loss, emotionally unstable, weakness, pain in the arms and legs, impaired sensory perception, irregular heartbeat and in sever conditions death can occur. Thiamine can be found in a variety of foods, in low concentrations. Yeast and pork have the highest concentration of Thiamine but you can also find it in foods like whole grain cereals, wheat flour, oatmeal, flax, sunflower seeds, brown rice, kale, potatoes, oranges, liver and eggs.

Vitamin B2 - Vitamin B2 is also known as Riboflavin. Riboflavin is required for many cellular processes within the body including the metabolism of energy, fats, carbohydrates, proteins and ketone bodies. Riboflavin deficiencies can cause Ariboflavinosis, which is protein- energy malnutrition. Symptoms may include cracks in the hips, sensitivity to sunlight, and inflammation of the tongue.   Riboflavin can be found in a variety of foods like milk, cheese, leafy green vegetables, liver, kidneys, legumes, yeast, mushrooms, and almonds.

Vitamin B3  - Vitamin B3 is also known as Niacin. Niacin is an essential nutrient that plays an role in metabolic process. Niacin is involved in both DNA repair, and the production of steroid hormones in the adrenal gland. Niacin deficiencies along with deficiencies in tryptophan are called Pellagra. Symptoms of Pellagra include aggression, inflammation of the skin, insomnia, mental confusion and diarrhea. Niacin can be found in a variety of foods such as salmon, avocados, broccoli, nuts, seeds, whole grains, carrots and mushrooms, and animal products such as steak, chicken and pork.

Vitamin B5 - Vitamin B5 is also known as Pantothenic Acid. Pantothenic is an essential nutrient to sustain life. It plays a key role in the metabolism and synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.   Deficiencies in Pantothenic can cause acne and in severe cases can cause Paresthesia, numbness of the skin.   Panthothenic Acid can be found in many foods, but whole grain cereals, legumes, meat, eggs, and royal jelly containing the highest amounts.

Vitamin B6 - Vitamin B6 is also known as Pyridoxine.  Pyridoxine assists in the balancing of sodium and potassium as well as promoting red blood cell production. Pyridoxine has also been linked to cardiovascular health by decreasing the levels of Homocysteine , which has been linked to cardiovascular disease. Deficiencies in Pyridoxine may lead to anemia, high blood pressure, water retention, depression and dermatitis.   Pyridoxine can be found in various grains, green leafy vegetables, liver, eggs, and meat.

Vitamin B7 - Vitamin B7 is also known as Biotin.   Biotin is a co-factor in the metabolism of fatty acids and leucine, and it plays a role in regulating the glucose levels in your blood.   Deficiency in adults usually does not cause any symptoms; however, in infants it can cause impaired growth and neurological disorders. Biotin can be found in a large variety of foods such as liver, legumes, soybeans, milk, in small amounts, but larger concentrations can be found in royal jelly and brewer's yeast.

Vitamin B9 - Vitamin b9 is also known as Folic Acid.  Folic Acid is essential for many biological functions such as playing a key role in the metabolism process to producing healthy red blood cells and preventing  Anemia to decreasing Homocysteine levels and cardiovascular disease.   Some research has also shown evidence that Folic Acid can slow the effects of age on the brain. Folic Acid is especially important during pregnancies as a deficiency in pregnant women can lead to birth defects, which is why supplementation during pregnancy is often recommended.   Folic Acid can be found in large quantities in leafy vegetables, beans, peas, sunflower seeds, liver and baker's yeast.

Vitamin B12 - Vitamin B12 is sometimes referred to as Cobalamin. Vitamin B12 have been a popular supplement in energy drinks because its vital role in the normal functioning of the nervous system and the brain. Along with Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 helps to produce healthy red blood cells. Vitamin B12 also plays a part in the metabolism of the cells in the body, including their regulation and synthesis, as well as the synthesis and energy production of fatty acids. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 can result in anemia, the inability of DNA to synthesize in red blood cell production, memory loss, increase chances of cardiovascular diseases and other cognitive defects. Because Vitamin B12 is only found in meat, eggs, milk and other animal products vegans must supplement their diet with Vitamin B12 or purchase plant based foods that have Vitamin B12 added to them.

B Vitamins are the 2nd most important supplement you can take, besides a multi-vitamin for a healthy body. B Vitamins are an essential part of getting the most nutrients out of your diet and helping your body stay energized and healthy. It is very difficult to consume the optimum amounts of each B Vitamin individually so it is much easier and cheaper to take a B Vitamin complex. Even if you are not sure if you're getting too much of a specific B Vitamin, you cannot overdose because it is easily excreted out of the body. Also with a complex you are using the synergistic effect of all the B Vitamins, which means better digestion and absorption of fats, proteins and carbs. B Vitamins should be taken after a meal but do not take it at the same meal you take your multi-vitamin.

"My poop is green", always a good conversation topic at a party after a drink or three. But what does green poop mean? Is it serious? Need to call for the doctor or the ambulance? Fortunately in the majority of cases it is not serious and can have several explanations.

Bowel movements should regularly occur 2-3 times a day usually around 20-30 minutes after eating a meal. Healthy normal poop is brown and soft. Stool coloration or less regularity can mean things are not as they should be. Fortunately there is a simple way to reduce the likelihood of coloration & digestive disorders.

So what does green poop mean?

The Good (and most common explanations)

- Foods, green leafy vegetables, peas, beans, green peppers, broccoli, spinach, olives etc. Any or all eaten to excess

- Algae such as Spirulina or Chlorella. Common for vegetarians who can sometimes take substantial amounts for iron & vitamin B12 and all the other nutrition they contain.

- Excess iron supplement intake can turn your poop green as the body can only absorb a certain amount at a time. Also a good idea to stick with natural, organic iron containing supplements as many these days are synthetic and even less easily absorbed.

- Laxatives, antibiotics and some medications

- Refined sugar if taken to excess

- Candy, ice blocks, cordials and sports drinks loaded with toxic green food coloring.

- In breast- fed babies, caused by colostrum in the mothers milk.

The bad

In the digestive system of a healthy body, waste changes color from green to yellow to brown as it passes through the small intestines and colon.

- If stool passes through the bowels too quickly, green bile sent by the liver does not have time to complete the digestive process and green poop can result.

- Green diarrhea, usually caused by a virus or a digestive process problem.

If either continues for more than a day or so consult your health care practitioner.

- Food poisoning

The ugly

Why green poop occurs is some times a more serious biological issue

- Overgrowth of bacteria

- IBS

- Celiac disease

- Crohn's disease

- Inflammatory bowel disease

- Infectious diarrhea

- Bowel cancer

If you notice green poop in the toilet bowel think back to what you have eaten, how far back depends on how regular you are. If you cannot relate the discoloration to anything eaten, then if it continues for more than a day or so get it checked out.

For regular bowel movements and to reduce the likelihood of colored stool or digestive disorders it is always advisable to undertake a regular colon cleanse with an oxygen based cleanser. Keep the bowels free from compacted stored waste which is the cause of many problems and at the same time provide oxygen therapy for the body. Illness, disease, parasites, bacteria all thrive in anaerobic conditions.

When your dog or cat has diarrhea, you want to know why and have the information for what to do and how to treat it. Most cases of acute diarrhea can be handled at home if the symptoms respond well to minimal treatment. Testing to determine the origin is unnecessary. Keep children away from sick dogs, clean messes carefully, and wash thoroughly after handling sick dogs.

Dogs commonly have bouts of acute diarrhea.

Acute diarrhea is when the dog has an abnormal stool that is softer than normal, watery, soft-formed, or soft with abnormal color or very smelly; or when the dog strains to defecate and only passes gas.

There are effective natural remedies.

There are effective natural remedies to support healthy firm stools and maintain "stable stomachs" -- promoting healthy digestion and bowel functioning as well as healthy levels of digestive gas in dogs and cats. Natural treatments for cat and dog diarrhea include probiotics, glutamine, and herbs like slippery elm and plantains.

Diarrhea can result from sudden changes in the dog or cat diet, or when the pet eats something it cannot absorb. It can result from motion sickness or travel stress. Other causes include pancreatitis, parasites such as the Giardia Protozoa and Coccidia (very common invaders of puppies and kittens), Coccidioidomycosis (valley fever), feline distemper virus, bacteria, toxins, and antibiotics. When dogs are unsupervised they are prone to ingest things including sticks, stones and various scavenged items that do not agree with them. The result can be a dog with a case of diarrhea. Don't be alarmed if your dog is acting reasonably well; in most cases the dog's diarrhea is a healthy reaction to help it heal, and not a disease.

It would also not be unusual for a dog (or anyone) with diarrhea to feel "under the weather", so your dog may appear a bit "off" until the diarrhea is resolved. Acute small intestinal diarrhea can be managed by not feeding for 24-48 hours but water must be given, and it is beneficial to add a probiotic powder to the dog's water.

If diarrhea stops, feed small amounts of bland low-fat food 3 to 6 times daily for a few days - foods such as home-cooked boiled hamburger, cottage cheese, tofu with boiled rice, and 100% pure canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling with sugars and spices). Most dogs love the flavor of pumpkin. Pumpkin is a unique fiber that regulates the bowel. Be aware, it will color the stool. Foods designed as intestinal diets usually contain rice which is more digestible than other grains. Gradually increase the amount fed in transitioning to the pet's normal diet.

If your canine develops a case of diarrhea and otherwise seems active, content and strong, you can assist the recovery to normal by making some dietary adjustments.

Dogs that have healthy digestive systems are able to eat a variety of foods and that includes raw foods, without resulting diarrhea. Dogs that need to eat a special diet to keep from having diarrhea are not healthy. Do not feed hypoallergenic or bland diets to avoid diarrhea. Find out what the problem is and fix it.

Diagnosis of persistent diarrhea is critical.

Chronic diarrhea is less common and more serious requiring more effort to correct. Diarrhea can be caused by diseases of the small intestine, large intestine or diseases of organs other than the intestinal tract.

If your puppy or kitten has not had its vaccination series and gets diarrhea, call your veterinarian right away. A young puppy with diarrhea usually needs medical attention immediately. Diarrhea can be fatal to puppies under 4 weeks. Green-tinged diarrhea in puppies may indicate Coccidiosis, a parasitic disease that consistently produces diarrhea. Symptoms may include refusal to eat, dehydration, weakness and straining to defecate. See your vet.

Mucus in diarrhea indicates an irritated bowel. Parasites, raw pork hearts and medical conditions can cause mucus in the stool. If the stool is voluminous and continues when you believe the dog should be "empty", call your vet for help in deciding whether you should wait the diarrhea out or make an appointment to have the problem assessed. It may be a bacterial infection.

Diarrhea occurs when an accumulation of dissolved substances in the intestine causes excess water to move into the intestine. This accumulation may be a result of decreased absorption of food, increased secretion of electrolytes by the intestine, or both.

Diarrhea is the dog's body purging itself of harmful or unwanted toxins.

This can be accompanied by vomiting, usually caused by inflammation of the stomach (gastritis), which often happens when dogs eat grass or spoiled food. In some cases of poisoning, vomiting should be induced to get the toxin out of the system as quickly as possible.

If diarrhea is bloody or explosive call your vet. If your dog has a fever or obvious abdominal pain or bloating, this can indicate a serious condition. Contact your vet immediately.

Be sure your pet's fluid intake is maintained, so dehydration does not occur. Dogs with diarrhea can dehydrate quickly. Provide ample fresh water and ensure that your dog is drinking. Dump, wash and refresh the bowl several times daily. Add a probiotic powder to the dog's water, or food. Giving the dog yogurt is soothing but does not provide any significant beneficial bacteria.

If your pet is dehydrated you can usually encourage drinking with a syringe. If your dog is dehydrated and will not drink or is vomiting, call your vet immediately!

When there is an increase in the number of bowel movements or bowel movements are more watery and loose than normal diarrhea occurs. It can also occur when inflammation of the bowel lining causes excess fluid to leak into the stool. Diarrhea may be accompanied by abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, or a fever.

Diarrhea is often caused by stomach flu or food poisoning. Diarrhea clears your body of viruses, bacteria, or toxins from the digestive tract. With good home treatment most cases of diarrhea will clear up in a few days. E.Coli, a common bacterium can also cause diarrhea.

Diarrhea can also be caused by drinking untreated water or unpasteurized dairy products or parasitic infections, such as Giardia lamblia. You can develop these infections by using untreated water to brush your teeth, wash your dishes or vegetables, or make ice for drinks.

There are many prescription and nonprescription drugs that can cause diarrhea:
Antibiotics may cause mild diarrhea that usually clears up without treatment. Bacteria Clostridium difficile (sometimes called C-diff) causes severe diarrhea that may start shortly after finishing the antibiotic.

* Laxatives, such as Correctol, Dulcolax, Ex-Lax etc may cause diarrhea.

* You can develop diarrhea by using too much of products that contain sorbitol (such as chewing gum) or fructose.

* Some people get diarrhea while traveling (traveler's diarrhea)

* Emotional stress, irritable bowel syndrome, or food digestion problems such as lactose intolerance can also cause diarrhea.

* Inflammatory bowel disease can also cause repeated episodes of diarrhea.

* Certain mal absorption problems and certain types of cancer can also cause diarrhea.

Another common cause of diarrhea in children and adults is food poisoning. Taking a few precautions may prevent most cases of food poisoning related to preparing and storing food at home. Special caution must be exercised while handling perishable foods, such as eggs, meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, milk, and milk products. If you are pregnant, or have a weakened immune system a chronic illness, you must take special care to prepare foods.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends the following steps to prevent food poisoning:

* Prepare foods safely

* Shop safely

* Cook foods to a safe temperature

* Follow labels on food packaging

* Serve foods with care

* Store foods safely

* Don't use leftover food frequently

Diarrhea and other related problems, such as dehydration can be prevented by simple home treatment. You can also take frequent, small sips of water or a rehydration drink and small bites of salty crackers.

Hunger exists to keep us alive, but it also can morph into a destructive force that could lead us to deforming obesity and even an early grave.

One question people who are interested in fasting and weight loss always ask me is whether or not appetite suppressants work. This has led me to research much on hunger and weight loss. The question is: How can I master hunger and not gain back all the weight I lose through fasting and dieting?

Some of my findings are outlined in this article and I hope it will give you hope and motivation to follow your goals and never give up.

Not a Panacea

Appetite suppressants can be "somewhat" helpful when fasting - but from experience I can tell you that they are NOT a panacea or fix all to the natural hunger pains when fasting or dieting. The only one that I would feel comfortable recommending is Hoodia because it is made from a plant. I would suggest that you use Hoodia, but NOT any other product that has chemicals of any kind or even caffeine - or other stimulant.

Powdered Hoodia has been the one that has helped me the most by "calming" the hunger. You can go online and Google "powdered Hoodia" and you will find an ample selection to choose from. What I do is put a tablespoon of the Hoodia in a cup -- usually in the afternoon -- and mix it with some water and a squeeze of lemon.

It tastes quite bad, but this approach is the one that I have found produces the best appetite suppression. I also use decaffeinated green tea and seltzer water with lemon to calm hunger. This combination has carried me through 7,14,21,30 and even 40 and 60-day water and juice fasts. It works like a charm. Something about the hot liquid hitting my belly, the Hoodia, and then the effervescence of the seltzer.

Hunger Flagellation?

Do not look at the hunger pains you go through when fasting and dieting as a punishment, or even as a torture to be endured (even though it certainly can feel that way). Instead, welcome the hunger pains as the clear and indivisible sign that your body is working overtime to overcome the very toxicity that you want to get rid of.

The toxicity - or the worst of it at least - hides in between your fat cells. So the only way for the body to deep clean itself is to dig into these cells. The process actually releases these toxins directly into your bloodstream, which in turn can cause pretty violent hunger pains, as well as headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, diarrhea and fever.

These symptoms - as well as the hunger pains - usually go away completely between the fifth and tenth day of water fasting. From then on, many persons feel as if they could go on fasting indefinitely. Confront your hunger face-to-face and realize that this very hunger is the one that will lead you back to your old ways if you do not learn to master it.

A Demanding Child

Many persons feel that it is bad to feel hunger and that any sign of it has to be addressed immediately. Learn to ignore it. Learn to live with it. Now please, I am not saying here that you should starve yourself in an anorexic way. What I am saying is that the belly can be like a demanding child who insists on getting what he wants, when he wants it or else it throws a tantrum.

Discipline it and you find freedom. Try to constantly suppress it and sooner or later it will blindside you and lead you back to where you started. The fasting and dieting process, especially when you are new, is one that can take months and even years. In my case, I fasted on and off for an entire year.

I would fast for 21 days, eat for about two weeks, then fast for another month, eat for 14 days, fast another month etc. IT is about forming life-long "discipline muscles" that will allow you to assume control of your stomach, instead of the other way around. Many persons fast once, break the fast, and within a short period gain all the weight back, and then some.

Toe-to-Toe

The only way to keep that from happening is by facing the hunger directly and becoming "comfortable" with it, to the point where appetite suppressant, or no appetite suppressant, you have the ability to choose what you are going to put in my body.

The real "breakthrough" is mastering hunger in the long-term and being able to say NO - regardless of how hard and loud my stomach yelled for that particular food that I know harms me. This is true freedom, and it is my sincere desire that you find it and experience health and wellness in every area of your life!

For the dedicated parrot parent nothing is worse than having a sick parrot. Often times the illness was not detected in the early stages, and now has become severe and endangers the parrot's life.

Here is a list of commonly recognized illnesses that can attack your parrot:

Aspergillosis

This is fungus which affects the respiratory system. It is most common in African Grey and Amazon parrots.

Symptoms are difficulty breathing, with an open mouth, and possible tail bobbing when breathing, weight loss, and possible wheezing. Diagnosis should be done by a veterinarian by way of blood tests, or radiographs.

Prevention can be accomplished by maintaining a dry, airy, dist free cage environment. Avoid any wet or damp nesting materials.

Hypocalcaemia

Simply put this is a lack of calcium. A lack of calcium in female parrots can result in problem laying eggs and can be quite severe and cause egg binding whereby the parrot has trouble expelling the egg.

Treatment and prevention involve the administration of calcium, possible lubrication of the vent, and maintaining a proper diet.

Pacheco's Disease

Pacheco's disease is highly contagious, and can spread rapidly through an aviary. The disease will often show up when a new bird is introduced to an aviary and birds start dying. It is very often fatal and affects parrots of all ages.

Symptoms include lethargy, diarrhea, ruffled feathers, and tremors in the neck, wing and legs.

Diagnosis can be done from a fecal sample as the urates will take on a green color. Treatment involves providing acyclovir every eight hours.

Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease

Symptoms are pneumonia, diarrhea, and rapid weight loss. Feathers take on a deformed appearance, bleeding and premature feather loss may occur.

Diagnosis is made with DNA probe of a blood sample. Treatment at this time is not possible as there is no known cure.

Proventricular Dilation Disease

Symptoms include weight loss, regurgitation and passage of undigested foods. In initial stages foods can have fast turnaround through the digestive system.

Treatment. There is no known treatment at this time.

Teflon Toxicity

This is just what you think it is. This illness is caused by the use of Teflon cookware in the home. When used in cooking the Teflon will create a toxic fume that is deadly to parrots. Do not cook with Teflon coated cookware.

Zinc Toxicity

This can result in an overexposure to zinc which is used in the welding joists of cages and in the paint on some toys.

All of these conditions require a trip to a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment if any is available.

Many of these conditions can be prevented by limiting exposure to new aviary arrivals until a thorough medical exam is performed. In addition new arrivals should be quarantined for 30-60 days.

Another measure that will help to prevent these illnesses from thriving is to keep the cage or aviary clean. Cleaning should be done on a scheduled basis with soap and water, and rinsed very well. In some instances it may be necessary to sterilize the cage to kill any remaining virus or bacteria. To do this it is recommended that you seek advice from your veterinarian since they are constantly disinfecting their surroundings to protect their clientele.

Hopefully this article will better prepare you to maintain the health of your beloved feathered friend.

Laxatives are not good if it is taken periodically. Few with constipation problems, may resort to them and very soon get addicted to it. More over, they do not absorb the fat in the food and make a person very lean and there would be a sudden weight loss. Green tea and herbal tea are good for skin and stomach but are not good if it is consumed in the long run. They lead to dramatic weight loss.

It is often not recommended to have over the counter medications. Women who are pregnant should strictly avoid this. They often experience heart burning sensation and indigestion during pregnancy. Remedy to this is not alternate medicines or stool softeners but natural products like probiotics which are present in curds, milk, soy milk must be consumed. Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits as it is not only good for your stomach problems but are also good due to the nutritional value it has. Both you and your to- be born kid will enjoy the benefits of the hidden nutrients, vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables.

Some have also revealed that it can have undesired effects on women. It disturbs the menstrual cycle or your fertility. If you get menstrual cramps it could be due to the use of such laxatives. Use of senna in women who are planning for a kid and want to get pregnant should avoid it!

Other women (non pregnant) or men, remember not to take them more than what is recommended. Vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, rectal bleeding, nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, dehydration and electrolyte disorder may be few of the disorder. In extreme cases, it may lead to surgery and removal of large colon due to prolonged severe constipation and pain.

Switch over to natural products, drink lots of water. Water therapy is the best therapy to treat chronic constipation. As soon as you get up in the morning, do not brush your teeth. Drink luke warm water, at first you can start of with 2-3 glasses of water and do not eat anything immediately after this. The more you drink, the better it is for your stomach. Your body needs water for its functioning and it is a natural stool softner. After half an hour, you can brush your teeth and have your break fast. Through out the day, do not forget to drink 8-10 glasses. It is recommended to have one to two litres of water every day! Drink water and avoid all kinds of ailments!

Bitter melons are known by different names, which include bitter gourd, balsam pear, goya and caraille. But despite the multitude of names, this unique vegetable is known best for what its name directly suggests - bitterness. In fact, this vegetable is considered the most bitter among all edible vegetables in the world.

Momordica charantia are surprisingly a member of the same family that includes cantaloupes and watermelons. These strange-looking vegetables resemble the appearance of cucumbers, only with rough and pockmarked skin. Imagine cucumbers having a bad case of a skin disease. But more than their unusual look is their unusual taste. We all know that vegetables are naturally bitter, which is why most people are not fond of eating them. Bitter gourds, however, bring vegetables to a whole new level of bitterness. These vegetables are sharp on the tongue, mostly because of a compound known as momordicines that give the bitterest taste in food.

Bitter gourds are subtropical vegetables that are usually grown in hot and humid weather. There are basically two different kinds of bitter melons available in the market. The Chinese type is usually long with a light green and pebbled texture while the Indian variety is shorter, greener with spiky knobs. In the U.S., the Chinese variety is more commonly seen. When it comes to the differences in bitterness however, someone who is not used to its flavor will find the distinction between the two types inconsiderable. When choosing it, make sure to go for the firm and light green in color with few to no skin blemishes. The darker the color of the vegetable, the younger and bitterer will its flavor be.

Many claim that the healthiest foods for the body are not the tastiest. Bitter melons do give a bit of support to this idea, as their medicinal qualities seem so valuable. It is rich in iron and have more calcium than spinach, more potassium than bananas, more beta carotene than broccoli and enough Vitamin A, C, B1, B2, B3, Phosphorous and fiber. Indigenous tribes are known to use ampalaya typically for sores, wounds and skin infections such as psoriasis and eczema. Because of their bitterness, these unusual veggies can help stimulate digestion, making them a good treatment for constipation and dyspepsia.

It is also known as "Karela" in India and are used in the ancient healing practices of Ayurveda. They are also used in India to treat a variety of ailments including skin irritations, digestive problems and viral and bacterial infections. In the Philippines, the same vegetable is known as 'ampalaya' and is well used for diabetic treatments. A study conducted by the Philippine Department of Health concluded that eating ampalaya offers a hypoglycemic effect which lowers blood sugar. Chinese and Australian research also found that such vegetables do offer such improvements in glucose intake.

Although more and more people are turning to bitter melons to relive them from ailments, there are still some cases when such vegetables cause complications in some people. Side effects include diarrhea and stomach pain. Compounds in bitter melons may also aggravate hypoglycemia in patients taking diabetic medication. Pregnant women are also warned not to eat it as it may cause premature contractions and in some cases, bleeding. The fruit is also said to have powerful abortifacient properties that may cause infertility.

When preparing this vegatable, rinse to remove any signs of dirt and pat dry. Although the skin of the it is quite thick, they do not need to be peeled. Cut the vegetable lengthwise to reveal its center part. Slowly scoop out the seeds and scrape the inner white pith. Although the seeds are considered edible, they may cause diarrhea and nausea in some people. Such vegetables are widely used as a culinary ingredient around the world allowing several different recipes that can derive from it. Although recipes vary, bitter melons are usually sliced crosswise that make a 翹-inch thick piece. Place the vegetables in a bowl with fresh water, add salt and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Doing this will then remove some of the bitter taste. Some even suggest adding turmeric powder to the salt solution for a more effective removal of the bitter taste. Your bitter melons would then be ready for cooking once you drain the water.

A well-known Chinese recipe is stuffing bitter melons with pork, garlic and mashed black beans. The strong flavors of black beans then counteract the bitterness of the vegetable. Chinese style cooking recipes cook bitter melons with tomatoes and eggs. Some people however, like to have the vegetable as it is by eating them steamed. Regardless of the way it is cooked, the benefits of bitter melons are best retained with minimal cooking.

Aside from cooking bitter melons, bitter melon leaf tea can offer the same medical benefits as well. Bitter melon tea is not only made using bitter melon leaves, but also by use of the fibrous seeds and the fruit of the plant. Drinking such can help people with diabetes, help expel intestinal gas, promote menstruation and act as an antiviral for hepatitis, measles and other feverish conditions.

Taking bitter melon leaf in juice form is another option by simply inserting them into a juicing machine or liquefying the fruit using a blender. Most experts suggest starting the morning by drinking a small glass of bitter melon juice, especially to help control diabetes. Doing this with an empty stomach will help jump-start the curative properties of the fruit through the system, proving the fruit to be much more effective in lowering blood sugar levels. Your homemade bitter melon juice should be placed in a glass container in the refrigerator, and it would be good for consumption for about a week. For those taking bitter melon for medicinal purposes, many find that drinking them in capsule forms is much more convenient.

More people are looking into using a more natural and holistic approach for body ailments. Many claim that the bitterness of such vegetables is an acquired taste that can be quite as delicious and appetizing as most vegetable dishes. But given the intense medicinal benefits bitter melons offer, many would be surprised to see how such vegetables can be such a powerful alternative to artificial medicine.

Be on the look out for these two bandits! They frequently team up together, look and act alike, and can rob you of your good health and quality of life...they may even be killers!

Not many people who have Crohn's Disease are aware that they may also have Celiac, yet both are auto-immune diseases and share very similar symptoms. Both diseases are characterized by diarrhea, cramping, bloating, mal-absorption and can be lethal!

Research done in Italy on 6/30/2005 indicated that there is a high prevalence of celiac disease in those with Crohn's disease, and that all patients who are diagnosed with Crohn's disease should begin a gluten-free diet at the time of diagnosis. Their study evaluated 27 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with Crohn's disease...13 were men and 14 were women, with a mean age of 32.3 years. Each patient was screened for celiac disease using antigliadin, antiendomysium, and antitransglutaminase blood antibody tests, and the sorbitol H2 breath test. If either the blood or breath test was positive, the patients were given a small bowel biopsy for final confirmation.

The researchers advised that doctors should test Crohn's patients for Celiac disease, and consider treatment with systemic steroids or oral budesonide, in addition to providing short-term nutritional support until the patients respond fully to a gluten-free diet. Some related findings regarding Celiac disease sufferers indicate rates have actually risen some 400% in the last fifty years. Some of that is due to advances in diagnostic technology, and increased awareness, but scientists also consider increased wheat and gluten consumption to be a major cause.

Can Celiac, like Crohn's disease be deadly? A team of nine researchers affiliated with the Celiac Center of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School, and with the Mayo Clinic say yes indeed. It is a rare and very serious form of Celiac Disease called Celiac Crisis. Even though Celiac Crisis is a rare condition that strikes adults, it is nonetheless serious and carries a high risk of death. In most cases, patients with the condition present clear signs and symptoms, such as severe unexplained diarrhea and malabsorption. It was suggested that doctors should test such patients for Celiac disease, and consider treatment with systemic steroids or oral budesonide, in addition to providing short-term nutritional support until the patients respond fully to a gluten-free diet.

So many of these tests are hard to pronounce and even the details of their findings somewhat difficult to understand, yet it is important that you get your doctor to check you out for Celiac Disease. Actually, simple blood tests quickly indicate if you have the disease or not.

My first thought after I read about this research, was how easily someone could conclude that all their symptoms could be the result of only Crohn's disease when actually it could be due to Celiac as well. I was fooled myself, up until I received a blood test for Celiac 3 years ago at the advice of my gastroenterologist. I ended up testing positive for the disease. Subsequently, I have altered my food intake...going on gluten/wheat free diets. Since then, I have able to control the Celiac, and have also been successful in improving my overall Crohn's condition. The last time I had a colonoscopy, back in October 2010, my doctor said I had almost no evidence of the disease. So...suggest to your doctor that you'd like to be tested for Celiac. Or, if he offers you the opportunity, go ahead and agree to have the test. You may discover a partner in crime lurking somewhere in your stomach, along with Crohn's just waiting to steal your good quality of life away.

Having an unwell baby or toddler can be scary. Is it just a minor illness like a cold or is it something more serious? You don't want to delay seeing the doctor if your child needs medical attention but you don't want to be over-worrying.
The list below gives signs and symptoms that absolutely need medical attention. If your baby or toddler has any of these, see your pediatrician or emergency room.

  1. Your baby or toddler looks blue around the lips - sometimes it's more a dusky color than blue. This needs immediate attention.

  2. Your baby or toddler is drowsy and "not with it" when he or she is awake. This includes if your baby or toddler is completely unresponsive. This needs immediate attention. I don't mean deep sleep or just waking from sleep, however.

  3. Your baby or toddler feels cold to touch and when you press on the breast-bone (sternum) for 5 seconds until the skin goes pale and then release, the color does not return within 3 seconds. This needs immediate attention.

  4. Your baby or toddler is struggling to breathe. You may notice the ribs sticking out with each breath. You need to seek help if this doesn't improve or settle over an hour or so.

  5. Your baby or toddler is vomiting bright green bile. This suggests a blockage in the gut. This needs urgent attention.

  6. Your baby or toddler passes a red-currant jelly stool, especially if there have been episodes of crying beforehand. This could be intussusception. This needs urgent attention.

  7. Your baby or toddler has a fever for 5 days or more and is unwell and generally miserable with it - a doctor needs to review your child for signs of Kawasaki disease. Seek help within 24 hours.

  8. Your baby or toddler is no longer performing tasks that he or she previously learned. For example, your baby can no longer sit or stand when he or she had been doing this previously. I don't mean on a day to day basis, but a trend over time that your child seems to be regressing in his or her development rather than progressing.

  9. Your baby or toddler is losing weight. I don't mean a small decrease on one occasion, but a general trend over time where your baby or toddler is not gaining weight or is actually losing weight.

  10. You are concerned that your baby or toddler is sick - you are the best judge as you know your child. If you are very worried, it is best to seek medical advice.

These are worrying signs and symptoms. If your baby or child has any of them, you need to have a medical review - some need more urgent review than others and that is indicated above.Your child may have other signs that concern you and, of course, if that's the case, seek medical attention.

Not many people are aware of what ganoderma healthy coffee is exactly. This variety of coffee is an extremely healthy coffee variety that is produced expressly to treat a large range of medical conditions.

Isn't too much coffee dangerous? Not really. Coffee by itself contains a large range of beneficial compounds that can help the human body. However, excess consumption of coffee is dangerous just like the excess consumption of any other material. For example, consuming coffee in moderate amounts can soothe pain in the form of headaches and body aches. It's a great antioxidant and it can reduce the chances for cancer and reduce the risk of Alzheimer's. Beneficial compounds in instant coffee can also help to soothe asthma and increase bowl movement decreasing diarrhea. However, taking ordinary coffee in excess can also cause serious medical conditions like anxiety and raised blood pressure, increased artery problems and gastrointestinal disturbances. It can also exacerbate existing medical conditions like gastritis, colitis and ulcers. This is where ganodeerma healthy coffee is useful. Ganoderma healthy coffee combines the herb ganodeerma with normal coffee to potentiate the beneficial effects of coffee as well as the herb.

Why Is This Herb So Popular

Ganodeerma is a very popular herb which is commonly known as reishi. It looks like a large hard bitter mushroom that is used commonly in Chinese medicine. The herb can control fatigue, reduce cholesterol and control high blood pressure. It also has a range of other beneficial effects like increasing stamina and boosting the immune system. The mushroom is used extensively in several Asian medicinal regimes and as a result, it has become increasingly popular all over the world. Several species of the mushroom are grown and almost all are used in traditional medicine to treat the body. However, different species have different beneficial effects. Sourcing the mushroom can be quite difficult as it is a valuable species and it is cultivated mainly for commercial use. As a result, if you want ganoderma, you can find it as a coffee combination. This is a very simple way of imbibing the benefits of the mushroom directly.

Profiting From Ganoderma Healthy Coffee

Of course, Ganoderma is available in the form or supplement of liquid extracts but you cannot be really sure of how pure the extract is. However, ganoderma healthy coffee has chunks of the mushroom which have been dehydrated and added to the coffee mixture. Just as Chinese herbal green tea is made, the coffee is added to hot water and allowed to steep. The decoction is then consumed throughout the day. Ideally, the coffee powder can be reused twice or thrice to make a milder tea. There are several commercial manufacturers who will retail different brands and tastes of the coffee for use. For example, Gano Cocoa "Hot Chocolate" with Ganoederma is a chocolate-flavored coffee, Ganodeerma Hoodia Coffee is ganoderema combined with hoodia to suppress appetite while improving overall health. Make sure that you check the actual herbal content of the product before purchase.

How to Avoid Bad Breath, Greasy Hair, Crankiness, and More ...

Mercury poisoning from dental fillings, chlorine hazards from the water we drink, steroid issues in the meat we eat ... it's no wonder many of us are scrambling get on a detoxification program!

There are hundreds of different ways to detoxify your body but most methods share one thing in common: detoxification symptoms. If you have ever done a detox regimen then you know all about these symptoms, which can include:

- bad breath
- skin breakouts
- greasy hair
- tiredness
- irritability
- bowel irregularities

Need we say more? Yuck. The good news is that if you do plan to do a detox regimen, there are steps you can take to prevent these symptoms from occurring, or at least lessen their effects. These steps are simple and easy to incorporate into your daily schedule.

7 Ways to Prevent Detoxification Symptoms

1. Drink Plenty of Water to Flush Toxins
As your body goes through detoxification, it uses water as one of the primary ways to move toxins through and out of your body. Therefore, when you're detoxing, you need to drink more than the usual eight glasses of water. I suggest people drink ten to twelve glasses of water. If you have difficulty drinking so much water, try adding salt, mint, or lime to your water. In addition, you can also try warming the water and adding honey or lemon to taste. Drink only non-chlorinated water, of course.

2. Take Enzymes

Enzymes help your body break down and flush toxins. People usually take enzymes with meals to aid with digestion, but if you take enzymes between meals they will actually assist your body with cleansing. They act as scavengers and trash-cleaners around the body when not needed for food digestion.

3. Avoid Stimulants

Although you may feel tired when doing a detox regimen, avoid taking stimulants like caffeine, if at all possible. Your body has to work doubly hard during a detox, and physical resources are already stretched to the limit. Stimulants like caffeine will only further overburden your system, not to mention stressing your adrenal system. In addition, although caffeine will give you an extra boost of energy, it will steal resources from your body's detox efforts to do so. If you need extra energy, turn to high-energy supplements like blue-green algae, wheat grass, or even freshly juiced apple-celery-carrot juices. You might need to visit your local juice bar for the juices.

4. Add Acidophilus and Bifidus to Your Regimen

Acidophilus and bifidus are the "friendly bacteria" in your gut that not only help you digest your food but also help your body flush toxins. To avoid any constipation, diarrhea, and other digestive issues during your detox, add 2-4 capsules of high quality bifidus and acidophilus to your daily regimen. Buy the kind that has to be kept refrigerated and comes in capsules. This kind tends to be more highly concentrated and powerful because it is freeze-dried. Trusting your morning yogurt to have enough of these kinds of good bacteria won't get you the quantities of acidophilus and bifidus you need.

5. Don't Overwork

Although adding many of the supplements mentioned here will help with detox symptoms, you also want to plan to take it easy while your body detoxes. Depending on how long your detoxification program lasts, you may want to rearrange your work and social schedule so you don't overwork. You may feel tired and irritable during the detox, and it can be a real struggle to work through low-energy periods. Plus, overwork has the exact opposite effect that your detoxification program is trying to achieve, which is a cleaner and healthier body.

6. Add Fermented Foods

Adding fermented foods like Japanese miso and ume plum balls (pills) to your daily diet can really help if you are doing a detox during the cold winter months. Another source of fermented food is Vegemite (sometimes called Marmite or Vegex). Fermented foods can help you feel warmer and more nourished during a detox, while not interfering with the cleansing process. Most of these products are available in your health store, although Vegemite and Marmite are international (British) products. and may have to be ordered online.

7. Sleep In

Whenever possible during the detox, sleep in. Get as much rest as your body asks for because detoxification is hard work! Sleep is one of the most nourishing acts you can do for your body. You relax body, mind, and spirit when you sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, you can try taking some valerian root herb or try the homeopathic chamomile.

Detox symptoms are said to be a sign that your body is cleansing but they are more likely to be a sign that your body is releasing toxins faster than you can get rid of them. A detox diet that is properly prepared for and supported with foods and nutrients that rev up the detox pathways should not result in many detox symptoms at all.

The fear of detox symptoms can put people off or make them quit too soon. But it does not have to be like that if you prepare well and follow a good program.  Knowing what to expect and what do if you get some mild cleansing reactions can help you through the process more easily.

It's easy to confuse withdrawal symptoms with detox symptoms. Detox diets exclude coffee and regular tea. If you normally drink a lot then you could get a bad headache if you suddenly stop caffeine. The best plan is to take time to gradually reduce the number of cups you drink to avoid this rather than go cold turkey.

True detox symptoms are numerous and can include:

Fatigue  - a lot of energy goes into the detox process so you could feel more tired and listless than usual. Its' best to listen to your body and rest as much as possible so your body can put all its effort into detoxifying those poisons.

Feeling achy or flu like symptoms - once again rest and keep warm. Try some dry skin brushing to stimulate the lymph circulation. Add a couple of cups of Epsom Salts to a hot bath and soak in it for 20 minutes. Wrap yourself in a large cotton towel and lie down for a couple hours. Make sure you are drinking 6 - 8 glasses of pure water a day.

Bowel changes - the combination of changing your diet and the toxins from the liver being dumped through the bile into the digestive system can cause various bowel detox symptoms from loose stools and excessive gas to constipation and even cramps. It is essential to make sure the bowels are moving well before you attempt any detox program. Most detox diets include foods such as linseeds or fiber supplements that help normalize the bowels.  A bowl of very well cooked, watery brown rice can help mop up toxins in the bowel and stop diarrhea.

Skin eruptions, itches or rashes - the skin is one way the body gets rid of toxins.  Avoid blocking the pores with lotions or creams.  Try skin brushing with a natural bristle brush or have a sauna or steam bath to increase skin detox. Use a natural organic soap and a shower filter.

Cravings and hunger - many detox diets exclude foods that people are commonly sensitive to or eat a lot of and it is common to start craving them. Drinking a green smoothie, fresh vegetable juice or eating a piece of fruit can help here. Once your body is fed good nutrition it will not crave anything. You can also go for a walk or do something to distract yourself like reading a book or calling a friend.

Emotional upset or depression - it can be a surprise if you are not prepared for it that a detox symptom could be feeling weepy or depressed.  Its not unusual to release old memories and feelings. Just let them out. If you get very upset try relax and  to do some deep breathing until it passes.

Remember that if you properly prepare for a detox diet and follow a plan that includes foods and supplements that are known to support liver detox you are unlikely to get any detox symptoms. If you do they will be mild and disappear in a day or two. You should soon feel brighter and more energized and you will think that it was all worthwhile.

When it comes to keeping your canine companion healthy both inside and out, it's important for owners to know which parasites see your dog as the perfect host.

One of the lesser-known parasites that poses a danger to dogs is the whipworm. Whipworms, like most parasites, are resilient. In egg form, their hard shells allow them to survive outdoors in the soil for years in the time. In many ways, whipworms are like hookworms, but instead of ending in a hook shape, one end of this worm tapers to a narrow, whip-like point.

Unlike hookworms, whipworms can't enter the body through the skin. The only way for your dog to contract them is by eating the eggs. Whipworms exist throughout North America, and transmission is easy if your dog has any contact with other dogs. The long-lived eggs can show up in the soil, dog toys, discarded bones and water dishes. Once eaten, whipworms then grow to maturity inside your dog's digestive system.

When they reach maturity, the adult worms fasten themselves to the large intestine and the cecum, a transitional pouch between the large and small intestine. Here, these nasty little parasites slash and puncture the intestinal walls in order to feed. The female starts to lay her eggs, which the dog excretes through the feces.

Symptoms for whipworm resemble those for other worms, such as hookworm. Many dogs can carry a certain number of whipworms without showing distress, but past a certain point, your dog may begin to exhibit signs such as a dull coat, anemia, rapid weight loss, and a loose and bloody stool. He may also begin vomiting up a yellow-green substance. In very severe cases, the worms may begin to puncture the intestinal wall, to the degree that the intestine begins to stick to the body wall. In this case, you might see your dog licking and worrying his right flank.

When you take your dog to the vet, it may take some time to diagnose him with whipworm. Whipworms lay eggs only intermittently, and even when they're actively releasing eggs, any diarrhea in your dog can make the eggs hard to find. Typically, vets will perform four stool samples over four days before ruling out whipworm.

If your vet finds whipworm eggs, she'll administer a potent dewormer. But the dewormers are only effective against whipworms in their adult form. As a result, you'll probably need to re-treat your dog.

There are no simple, foolproof ways of removing whipworm eggs from the soil around your house. However, a contaminated environment can infect your dog over and over again. The best way to combat reinfestation is to make sure your dog's quarters are sunny and dry, since whipworm eggs require moisture. Try to place him in an area of fresh new gravel, pavement or soil.
