Teas marketed as herbal supplements are now widely available in the market and considered as weight loss products. There are many brands touted to be slimming teas or dieting teas, and when you drink them, it might seem initially that they work. The truth is, however, they could put your health at risk.

Such teas cause you to have more frequent bowel movements, which certainly make people believe that their bodies are undergoing a serious cleansing. While you are indeed getting rid of toxins from your body, that's not the only thing that the slimming tea is doing to your body. Such teas contain herbs that have laxative properties, such as senna, rhubarb root, cascara, senna, buckthorn, and aloe. They are derived from plants and have been in use for centuries because they are powerful in curing constipation.

Castor oil, senna, and cascara are also available over the counter in pharmacies and regulated as drugs. It has also been shown that the diarrhea brought about by the use of these laxatives don't absorb large amount of calories in the body. This is because laxatives don't work with the small intestines, where most calories are being absorbed by the body. Such laxatives act on large intestines instead, and when taken in significant amounts for a long period of time, the body's ability to absorb fat is affected, thus leading to oily bowel moments and weight loss. People who suffer from eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia nervosa also abuse laxatives to hasten their weight loss.

While you can indeed lose weight by taking large quantities of laxatives, this is not a good idea because you could be inflicting damage on your gastrointestinal tract as well as weaken the bones, known osteomalacia. Those who like drinking slimming teas tend to use them because they are quite affordable and they taste good compared to other laxatives. Those with eating disorders, on the other hand, prefer these teas because they are fast-acting.

Women in particularly might be adversely affected by slimming teas. While these teas might not have an effect on women's menstrual cycle and fertility, they should take care to see if the teas causes rapid weight loss. Pregnant women must also refrain from taking laxatives.

These findings should definitely put you on your guard especially because of the availability of slimming teas and their misleading labels. By being labeled as being natural or having cleansing properties, without mentioning the word "laxative." These teas are also touted as low-calorie, which is definitely attractive to dieters. However, they don't contain any nutrients as well, particularly if they are sweetened.

Laxatives can be used in small amounts, but there are negative effects that could take place if you take them for a long period of time and in large amounts. Such products can cause vomiting, severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, dehydration, and rectal bleeding. Excessive use of these laxatives can also cause long periods of pain, especially when the colon has lost its ability to function and would require removal. This is definitely not worth risking your health over, no matter how much you want to lose weight through laxatives.

Most breeders begin a series of vaccinations soon after puppies are weaned, and annual booster vaccinations should be continued throughout the dog's life. The following relates to contagious diseases that may be prevented by appropriate vaccinations.

Canine Distemper:
In spite of available vaccines, canine distemper (dog plague or hard pad) continues to be a significant threat to young puppies. It is caused by a virus that attacks the dog's respiratory tract, intestinal tract and brain. Often resulting in twitching, convulsions, and death, the reservoir for canine distemper exists in stray dog populations and wild carnivores such as raccoons, foxes, and minks. Small puppies may suddenly die from canine distemper with few visible symptoms. Older dogs may show fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, dehydration, diarrhea, and vomiting. A yellow or green ocular discharge often accompanies canine distemper, and coughing is another common sign of this disease. A few dogs seem to respond to various treatments, only to die later from convulsions and paralysis. Hardened footpads, tooth enamel deficiencies, and permanent neurological signs such as blindness or twitching of extremities often affect those dogs that miraculously survive the disease.

Infectious Canine Hepatitis (ICH or CAV-1):
This disease is a contagious, incurable, systemic disease causing fatal damage to the liver. It is highly communicable among dogs, but is not contagious to humans. CAV-1 is an abbreviation for the causative organism, canine adenovirus type 1. Symptoms often mimic those of distemper, including sudden death in young pups. Vaccines are highly effective in preventing ICH and are usually combined with other immunizing agents at weaning time, with annual boosters required.

Leptospirosis:
Usually shortened to Lepto, this disease causes a sometimes fatal kidney damage. The causative organism is a spirchete organism, similar to a bacterium. Highly contagious, the Lepto organism is transmitted by urine and can infect humans as well as other animals. Signs of Lepto infection include lethargy, lack of appetite, thirst, rusty-colored urine, diarrhea, and vomiting. Affected dogs sometimes walk with a peculiar stilted, roach-backed gait. Antibotic treatment may be effective, but permanent kidney damage often results from an infection. Leptospirosis vaccine is usually combined with CD and CAV-1 immunizing products at weaning time, and is repeated annually.

Parvo and Corona Viruses:
These two are among the more recently discovered viruses causing often fatal canine diseases. Both diseases typically produce severe diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and depression. Spread by saliva, feces, vomit, or one on one contact with affected dogs, these diseases are particularly devastating to young puppies. Humans are not susceptible to these viruses, but they may inadvertently transmit the causative virus on shoes and clothes. Vaccinations are usually given at weaning age and annual boosters required. Consult with your veterinarian about the use of these products.

Kennel Cough:
This syndrome is caused by a number of different viruses and bacteria. Parianfluenza virus and Bordetella bacteria produce the typical coughing, fever, loss of appetite, and depression. This syndrome affects dogs of all ages, is quite contagious, and is easily spread by aerosol (airborne droplets of saliva and nasal discharge from an affected dog's cough or sneeze). The bronchial tubes, trachea, and larynx are affected. Uncomplicated kennel cough may bother the dog and owner for two or three weeks if the dog is not stressed. It has a much lower fatality rate than some of the diseases discussed previously, but when complicated by pneumonia or other problems, it may be serious.

Upper respiratory disease vaccines include intranasal types that are often less predictable than injectable types, but their reliability is improving. Consult with your veterinarian about the best product to protect your dog.

Lyme Disease:
The carrier of this disease of dogs and humans is the deer tick. A few years ago, Lyme disease was more commonly reported in the northeastern and midwestern regions of the United States, but it has now spread nationwide, and is presently known to exist in at least 40 states. White-tailed deer and field mice are the principal reservoir hosts for the Lyme virus.

Lyme disease may cause lameness in an affected dog and is accompanied by heat, pain, and swelling of one or more leg joints. Body temperature is usually elevated and the dog is listless. Early treatment is important to be effective. The risk of Lyme disease is related to the length of time an infected tick is attached to the dog. When you are in an area where deer ticks have been seen, check your dog at least once daily for their presence. They are tiny (about 0.1 inch or.04 cm in diameter), black, or red and black, and resemble a small mole on the skin. As they suck blood, they grow much larger and grayer, with the female ticks sometimes reaching the size of a grape.

There is a Lyme disease vaccine available with newer vaccines being developed. A good tick-preventive program is essential in any case.

Rabies:
Rabies, a fatal viral disease of all warm-blooded animals including dogs and humans is spread primarily by contact with the saliva of an infected animal. It is usually associated with bite wounds.

Brain changes are the characteristic signs of rabies. The average time lapse between an infected bite and signs of the disease (incubation period) can be as short as two or three weeks but occasionally it is several months. The rabies virus travels from the site of the bite to the brain by way of nerve trunks; therefore, if the infecting bite occurs on a foot, it results in a longer incubation period. After reaching the brain, the rabies virus migrates to the salivary glands where it reproduces, causing typical signs.

The signs of rabies in a dog are varied. Sometimes the affected dog becomes aggressive and highly irritable. As the disease progresses, the dog may become partially paralyzed or vicious.

Immunization for this disease is usually administered later than other vaccines. Check with your veterinarian for local requirements. Many cities and counties have laws requiring rabies vaccinations when dogs reach three months of age, and the law usually stipulates that the vaccine must be administered by, or under the direction of, licensed and USDA-accredited veterinarians.

Reservoirs for rabies virus are found in wild animals such as skunks, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, bats, and other wildlife. Since this incurable and fatal disease can infect all warm-blooded animals, great emphasis is placed on rabies preventive programs.

Like every animal, chickens may come down with certain diseases and sicknesses. There are many different kinds of diseases out there. Here are the most common chicken diseases and treatments you may come across while raising chickens.

Coccidiosis

This is a very common disease among chickens. It consists of a one-celled parasite which is host specific and immunity specific. Signs of coccidiosis in chickens can be described as having bloody droppings, ruffled feathers, can be pale, and can even cause death. This disease is passed through droppings and can live where there is moisture, oxygen, and warm temperatures. Most outbreaks occur in May and June. To prevent the spread of this disease, keep the birds dry and feed them Amprol continuously until eight weeks of age.

Roundworms

These worms are about three inches long and live in the intestines of chickens and can be very common. The larva damages the intestinal wall by blocking it and excreting toxins. The life cycle of these worms are about 28 days. Chickens will have decreased egg production during this time. The treatment is Piperazine for about 12-24 hours, 50mg per pound of body weight in drinking water and meldane feed for 18-21 days.

Hairworms

These worms are much smaller that roundworms, about 1 1/2 inches long and very thin. They also cause intestinal wall damage and deprive the chicken of nutrients and vitamins. Signs of this disease include platinum yolks in their eggs, green diarrhea, and paleness in the bird. Treatment includes different types of wormers you can get at a local feed store or from your veterinarian.

Lice and Mites

Lice and Mites are common parasites of chickens and make their home by infesting the chicks skin and feathers. These bloodsuckers cause anemia and can ultimately kill your chicken if not caught in time. They also cause decreased egg production. To treat your chickens dust the males with sevin, the females dust themselves.

Nutritional Deficiencies

If you feed your chickens right you should not have these deficiencies. So be sure to add these vitamins to their diets. To prevent rickets which is a deficiency of vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus, add cod liver oil and dical or steam bone meal. Add vitamin E to prevent crazy chicken disease. Deficiency of riboflavin can cause curly toe paralysis, just add milk products to their feeding. If you notice some pale birds, add vitamin A which is in cod liver to their feed.

Infectious Bronchitis Virus

This disease is a clinically acute, highly contagious viral infection affecting chickens of all ages. It has an incubation period of 24- 48 hours. It affects the respiratory and urogenital tract resulting in respiratory distress, sneezing, rattling and lesions in the trachea. In laying birds, you will notice a drop in egg production and misshaped eggs. Some strains of the virus may cause severe mortality in up to 100% of your chicken population. Initial vaccination should be done in order to prevent disease. If the chicken did not receive a vaccination then antibiotics should be given.

All these diseases are preventable with proper feeding and vaccination of your flock. Be sure to check your chickens often for these diseases to keep them healthy.

No doubt you've heard of Green Tea and the health benefits you can experience from drinking it.

Are you giving your family this powerful antioxidant daily?

Here is a refresher on some of the benefits you can experience with Green Tea.

Historically, Green Tea has been one of the world's most popular beverages. The Chinese have been drinking it for thousands of years. It is now the second most popular beverage in the world, after water!

Green tea is made from the Camellia Sinensis plant...as is black tea. The difference is that Green Tea is unfermented, which means that the powerful antioxidant properties are fully intact.

The power of Green Tea lies in its catechin polyphenols, particularly something called epigallocatechin gallate (say that 5 times fast!). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: not only does it inhibit the growth of tumors, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

Green Tea has been reported to:

*Assist in weight loss.

According to a a study conducted at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, Green Tea seems to help the body burn more calories.

Green Tea also slows down the release of carbohydrate in the body, preventing sharp rises in blood sugar.

I know a couple who lost ten pounds each in the first few weeks after drinking Green Tea every day, with no other changes in their diet.

*Boosts the immune system.

Green Tea is one of the most potent antioxidants available. It also contains some vitamins and minerals. Green Tea lowers the risk of cancer.

In 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking Green Tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in Green Tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells.

A study in September 1997 by the University of Kansas reported that Green Tea has the highest amount of any known antioxidant. EGCG (that tongue twisting antioxidant found in Green Tea) is 100 times more effective than Vitamin C, and twice as powerful as resveratrol (the antioxidant in red wine).

*Lowers cholesterol

University of California scientists discovered that the caffeine in coffee is bound with coffee bean oils, which raise cholesterol levels.

In contrast, research indicates that drinking Green Tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Green Tea Benefits Moms

*Helps with morning sickness

There are no studies that confirm this, this is a personal observation.

I had severe, prolonged morning sickness with all 3 of my pregnancies.

With my third child, I discovered Green Tea and noticed that when I drank it, not only did it ease the nausea, but it seemed to have a mildly stimulating effect on my appetite and it helped me keep the food that I ate down. My guess is that the astringent effect of the polyphenols caused this.

Historically Green Tea has been used as a digestive aid. That can certainly be helpful to a pregnant woman.

*Natural energy boost

Again, I could find no studies that proved this, but I drink Green Tea primarily for the natural energy boost it gives me, without any unpleasant side effects. I used to drink a coffee in the afternoon, get shaky and hyper, only to crash later on.

Green Tea doesn't cause those unpleasant side effects, and it also gives me the same feeling of "clearing the cobwebs" from my brain.

What Mom doesn't need this?

*Lowers the risk of blood clots

Green tea has been shown to be effective in preventing abnormal clotting of blood, which is especially important during pregnancy.

Green tea is non-toxic and safe. It doesn't cause birth defects and has no adverse affect on pregnancy or breastfeeding.

In fact, a study conducted at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program of Northern California, researchers found that women who drank more than one half cup of green tea every day doubled their odds of conceiving.

No significant association was found for other beverages, researchers concluded that some chemical component of tea might have been responsible for the increase in fertility.

Green Tea Benefits Kids!

*Helps prevent tooth decay

Green Tea can kill the bacteria that causes plaque. Does your child's juice do that?

Having a hard time getting your kid to eat his veggies?

A cup of Green Tea has more antioxidant ability than a cup of broccoli or spinach!

*Helps prevent illness

Previous tests prove Green Tea can neutralize germs, including some that cause diarrhea, pneumonia, cystitis and skin infections.

New research by Milton Schiffenbauer of Pace University finds that Green Tea deactivates viruses.

Recent research at Harvard indicated that tea chemicals stimulated T-cells that bolster immunity against bacteria and viruses.

Would fewer illnesses make life more pleasant in your home?

*Ok, so why aren't you drinking Green Tea already?

If you're like me, it's because the Green Tea you've tried tastes terrible. I've tried many brands that reminded me of diaper rash ointment...no I'm not kidding! It takes some searching to find a brand that you like. You might want to sweeten it a bit with a drop of Stevia too for even more health benefits.

Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder. It is not disease but a combination of a number of symptoms like abdominal pain and discomfort, flatulence or bloating and alternating episodes of diarrhea and constipation. The increase in frequency and number of intestinal contractions disturb bowel movement patterns, which is the most likely cause of the alterations in bowel pattern. A variety of interventions are available for irritable bowel treatment, alleviating symptoms and improving overall level of functioning.

Dietary changes are important when dealing with alterations in bowel habits. Because the episodes can be constantly changing, either hard lumpy stools or soft watery ones may predominate an incident, the diet should consist of foods that specifically help to alleviate the abnormal pattern that are present at that time. The main result being sought is to lessen contractions and gut motility to reduce diarrhea and increase contractions and lubrication for constipation.

Soluble fiber from supplements and whole foods are necessary to aid in the process of digestion and to move matter through the intestine without straining or spasms.

The aim of the additional fiber is to soothe and relax the muscles that are responsible for the contractions to reduce pain experiences. Peppermint tea, chamomile and anise are also good sources that can be incorporated in an irritable bowel syndrome diet to aid digestion and help with bowel functionality.

Gastrointestinal spasms can return to normal and pain levels generally will have significantly decreased after ingesting soluble fiber for a few days. Severe cases of diarrhea or constipation can also be minimized. If there is not sufficient soluble fiber in the diet then taking a soluble fiber supplement with lots of water to facilitate proper draining and flushing of the bowel can help. Also, exercise can be very helpful in eliminating bloating and gassiness.

Soluble fiber can dissolve in water, which has beneficial effects in stool formation and elimination. The colon is filled with fluids and gel-like substances, which can be readily absorbed by the fiber to stabilize diarrhea as it adds form and integrity to the stool.

Continue reading to discover how you can sign up for our free newsletter and find out what really works to relieve IBS.

On the other hand, it also can readily add water to stool during constipation to lessen lumpiness and firmness which then facilitates easier passage through the intestine and colon.

Rice, pasta, potatoes and oatmeal are good food sources of soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber like green leafy vegetables and fruits are beneficial for constipation relief. However, spasms and contractions are usually more likely with insoluble fiber, which may add to the constipation episodes.

Both soluble and insoluble fiber must be incorporated in a healthy diet. Some food sources like wheat, apples and cereals have insoluble fiber covering a soluble fiber content which is why most fruits and vegetables are better eaten with the skin on for a mix of both fiber types.

However, some types of insoluable fiber may have 'trigger risks' so a number of preparations like peeling may be effective to avoid hypersensitivity reactions. It may be a case of trial and error to see if you can eat fruits and vegetables with the skins on or off.

Soluble fiber is generally considered one of the most effective foods for IBS. Treating the disorder with whole foods or supplements should ease the gastro-colic reflex and relax the gastrointestinal muscles and so reduce spasms and contractions. This simple irritable bowel treatment can ease diarrhea and constipation significantly.

More On the Importance of the Liver

A lot of my studies have been on the liver, and just how important they are to our bodies and good health. Our livers are responsible for so much that we absolutely must become more aware of how to keep it healthy. Our livers break down all our foods, cleanses the toxins in our bodies, processes all of our sensory input, and is our heat-furnace. It's the only organ in the body that can regenerate.

Our current health care system is structured around pain killers, antibiotics, and medication for everything you can imagine. These pills are extremely hard on our livers. Combine these medications with use of alcohol, drugs, heavy metals, and pesticides, you have the perfect formula for killing off your liver early.

Our livers are extremely abused in our society, and adding Bladderwrack Seaweed to your diet can play an important role in helping to heal our bodies and livers.

Food for Flares

If certain foods can trigger your interstitial cystitis symptoms, it only makes sense that you should choose bladder friendly foods if you are in an IC flare. The very safest foods on an IC Diet include plain chicken, pears, green beans, carrots, rice, distilled or filtered water, milk, eggs, and white bread products. You should see positive results within three days of following this very minimal "rescue" diet.

Please note that this diet may be nutritionally deficient, and should not be consumed for longer than a week. Therefore, I recommend that you contact your physician if you do not experience relief after a few days. If your physician says that you need to follow this minimal diet longer than a week, a registered dietitian can help you choose foods to maximize your nutritional intake.

Since interstitial cystitis flares are unpredictable and can consume a tremendous amount of mental and physical energy, it is wise to have a flare first aid plan handy. Make sure you always have a supply of bladder friendly food available.

It is much easier if all you need to shop for is fresh milk and eggs. You can keep chicken, green beans, and white bread in the freezer to pull out at the last minute. Stock up on canned pears and carrots. Rice can be instant or long grain. Rice makers can be a great appliance. In twenty minutes, you can have the base for almost any meal!

Other Self-Help Strategies

In addition to following an IC diet, there are other things you can do to minimize a painful bladder flare. If you are constipated or have diarrhea, other dietary adjustments may be more appropriate than the rescue IC Diet provided. Drinking more water and adding fiber are simple self-care ways to correct these problems. If intestinal problems persist, ask your physician for other treatment recommendations.

Other IC flare management techniques include:

  • getting plenty of rest

  • practicing stress reduction strategies

  • taking warm baths with Epsom salts or baking soda

  • wearing loose clothing like jumpers, medical scrubs, or pajamas

  • writing in your journal, and

  • talking to other IC patients.

Try using a heating pad, hot water bottle, or one of those body heat pads that stick on the outside of your underwear. Heat can fool the body into thinking that you are not feeling any pelvic pain. You might also talk to your doctor about medications you can use specifically for a painful bladder flare.

To simplify the coping process, you might want to create a list of things to do when you get a flare. Include your urologist's phone number, sample menus, a list of medicines to take, and remind yourself to rest.

Finally, enlist the help of your loved ones. Even small children can understand that your "tummy" hurts, and most will be content to cuddle on the couch with you and do quiet things.

Give Your Body a Chance to Heal

Regardless which IC flare coping strategies you use to get your fussy bladder under control, it is important not to overdo it when you feel better. It may be tempting to work overtime to catch up on chores and work that piled up when you were not feeling well, but I can't emphasize enough that it is important to rest and eat only the most bladder friendly foods for a week or so after you recover.

Finally, try to think about what may have caused the flare in the first place and add these thoughts to your journal. Did you wear restrictive clothing or try a new food? Were you under more stress than usual, or were you not getting enough sleep? By scrutinizing the things that may have caused your bladder to flare, you may be able to minimize your chances for another one!

Are you thinking of removing your gallbladder because you have gallstones? You're not alone, almost half a million Americans will remove this vital organ this year.

The question is: Should you remove your gallbladder?

Before you answer that, let me explain something.

There Are Foods That Can Help Eliminate Your Gallstones

Yes, you read that correctly. Certain foods and drinks have been found over the years to not only prevent gallstones from forming but actually speed up the process of passing gallstones from your body.

You see, your diet is the main reason why you got your gallstones in the first place. A high-fat, high-cholesterol diet is one of the main contributors to gallstone formation, according to study after study.

So just as your diet helped to form your gallstones, so it can help to get rid of them.

But what should you eat? And not eat?

I'll tell you in a minute, but first let me tell you another reason you should try a natural gallstones remedy before you go under the knife.

Your Gallbladder is More Important Than You Might Think

Remember how I asked you if you should remove your gallbladder?

Well, this might help you decide...

Your gallbladder is actually an organ in your body. And just like any other organ, such as your heart or lungs, the gallbladder performs a necessary function to keep you alive and healthy. In the case of your gallbladder, you need it to release a liquid called bile. What bile does is help to digest fats in the foods you eat.

What if you couldn't digest fats? This would mean you couldn't eat many foods, such as red meats, spicy foods, or fast foods.

Is that what you want? Well, that's what will happen once your doctor removes your gallbladder!

You're in Trouble Without Your Gallbladder

If not being able to digest fats wasn't bad enough, here's something else to think about...

Recent studies indicate that removing your gallbladder puts you at a higher risk for bowel and colon cancers. That's because bile that used to be stored in your gallbladder will now drip endlessly into your intestines, causing inflammation that eventually can lead to cancer.

And take a look at these various side effects related to gallbladder removal: long-term nausea, chronic diarrhea, and indigestion.

Ready to try a natural gallstone treatment?

Getting Rid of Gallstones With the Right Foods

Now that you've read this far, I know you are serious about eliminating your gallstones for good with a natural method that is based on eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong ones.

Follow these simple guidelines to get started...

1. Prevent new gallstones. This might seem obvious, but it's very important. To do this avoid fatty and high cholesterol foods. Gallstones are made up of cholesterol. Therefore, you want to avoid foods that are full of cholesterol, such as peanuts, beans, corn, milk, fowl, onions, pork, eggs and red meat until your gallstones pass.

2. Flushing your body. Flushing goes hand in hand with preventing and passing gallstones. Get enough fiber everyday so your body can start flushing the toxins, free radicals, cholesterol and gallstones that are making you sluggish. Check the labels when you shop so you can buy high dietary fiber foods. Fruits and vegetables are by far the best sources of fiber. Eat at least 5-7 fruits and vegetables every day.

3. Drink more water. I know you've heard this over and over again. But it's for a good reason. Water is probably the healthiest thing you could drink day in and day out. It will literally help every one of the trillions of cells in your body to work better, so you will feel and look your best. On top of that, water helps to flush your gallbladder and possibly your gallstones.

4. Get enough Vitamin C. More and more is being discovered about the benefits of Vitamin C. As relates to gallstones, Vitamin C helps to convert cholesterol to bile acids. This one thing alone can hold the key to prevent and treat your gallstones. Get at least 2000 mg of vitamin C a day.

5. Do a gallbladder and colon cleanse. This is one of the best ways to not only clean these organs but to pass your cholesterol based gallstones. By combining common items like olive oil, lemon juice, and Epsom salts, you can quickly and safely pass your gallstones. Find out about a step by step Gallbladder Cleanse.

Your New Gallstone-Free Life

So now that you know how to get started, it's time to take the next step.

What if you could completely avoid surgery? Save your gallbladder? Get rid of your gallstones for good and start living again?

Dark green poop may be an indication of a bigger problem. About 75% water, when it turns green, it is usually an indication of something internal that is processing the food you eat differently. Normal stools are brown, so when it turns green, you should take notice, and heed this advice to determine whether there is something very wrong...

There are quite a few reasons why dark green poop may appear. One of the biggest reasons is due to something you ate. A large increase in the consumption of leafy vegetables is something that can easily turn your poop into a green color. Don't think that if you ate a salad the night before that the color should change, however. For the most part, a very large increase in the amount that you eat warrants a change, so unless you've dramatically changed your diet, that shouldn't be the case.

Another dramatic dietary change is a large amount of iron or sugar. Both of these can cause your stool to change to be dark green, and sometimes even black. It may not be absolutely clear whether you've increased the amount of iron or sugar in your diet, so you should take some time to take a look at what you've been eating and adjust your diet accordingly.

If the dark green poop is accompanied by symptoms of nausea, fever, constipation, diarrhea, weight gain, you may be suffering from a digestive system disease. You should either look into flushing the toxins out of your system by using a colon cleanse.

It is quite normal to have green poop, particularly in babies but occasionally adults can experience this as well. Some people may take this as a symptom of ill health, however unless this is clearly the case, there generally is no cause to worry. There are many causes for this change in the color of poop and until proven otherwise it is not always serious.

A very common reason is because of our diet. If we have a diet that is chlorophyll rich or if you eat too many green leafy vegetables your poop may be green. If you eat vegetables like spinach, broccoli and food items that are rich in iron content green feces may result as well.

Presence of certain food colors in processed foods like ice-creams, cold drinks etc may cause the poop to be green. Food items rich in iron content may also cause green poop. Bile produced by the small intestine may also result in green poop. Consult a nutritionist or a dietitian regarding your diet and this may help you in dealing with the problem.

The general causes of green poop may be harmless and won't last for a long time, but if the green poop also has some of these symptoms you may have a reason to panic. If the green movement is accompanied by pain in the stomach, Diarrhea, loss or gain of weight, digestive disorders, you may have to see a doctor. Occasionally change of poop color could be due to deposits of feces or undigested food in the colon. This state can not just build body toxins but also cause irritation in the colon. This situation can be resolved by washing of the colon with the use of enema. After a colon cleanse or detoxification you will experience better health.

In general, most people don't think much about how their body works to digest good. But anyone with an ostomy should know - in fact quality of life depends on knowing - how their body processes different kinds of foods.

The reasons for this is simple: knowing how diet affects digestion is going to make stoma output more predictable, provide superior health and wellness, and avoid embarrassing or difficult situations.

Ostomates have concerns for digestion that are unique: food blockages can happen (where larger pieces of undigested or semi-digested food block movement through the body), constipation, indigestion and diarrhea are all different experiences for those with ostomy. But the smart management of diet and nutrition for an ostomate is absolutely essential for living well with Ostomy.

Here are some tips along with some common foods that affect digestion patterns:

  • Slow Down and Chew - Chewing food properly lessens the chance for food blockages around the stoma, keeps you from overeating and also keeps you from swallowing less gas that ends up in the pouch.

  • Schedule Regular Meals - Eating small meals throughout the day is best, without skipping. Skipping meals and overeating produce extra gas.

  • Drink Water - Stay hydrated; it's common many ostomy patients experience higher levels of fluid loss due to the nature of colostomy / illeostomy surgeries and its impact on how the intestines process water.

  • Don't Get Fat - Stay slim and healthy, it's better for your stoma and better for your overall health.

  • Make Gradual Diet Changes - This helps you determine how foods effect your digestive system. You will begin to notice how certain foods are digested and their impact on how your pouches fill.

  • Keep a Log Book - Make notes of when, what, and how you eat, then also how it affects your digestion and ostomy. This helps keep track of what foods work best for you.

How Certain Foods Affect You

Everyone's body is different, but here are some good foods to eat and foods to avoid. Generally, high fiber foods and high fat content foods produce more gas and odors, but everyone's body is different and you'll only know if you experiment with different types of foods.

  • Foods to avoid for odors and/or gas: Asparagus, coffee, garlic, prunes, beans, cucumbers, green peppers, radishes, brussel sprouts, eggs, milk, turnips, cabbage, fish, vitamins/certain drugs, alcoholic beverages, apples, soda, dairy products, onions, drinking straws & chewing gum (you'll swallow more air), melons, mushrooms, corn, broccoli, spinach, nuts, cabbage.

  • Some foods that help decrease odors: Buttermilk, parsley, yogurt, cranberry juice, spinach.

  • Foods that thicken output: Yogurt, bananas, milk (preferably boiled), creamy peanut butter, breads, cheeses, pastas, potatoes, rice.

  • Food that thin output: Fruits and fruit juices, chocolate, green beans.

Diarrhea

Fluid loss is an important factor for any ostomate, but it's even more so with cases of diarrhea. Potassium and sodium are two minerals that are usually lost in dehydration and must be replenished. Here are some foods high in Potassium that help get back lost minerals due to diarrhea and fluid loss: Milk, Chicken, beef, fish, pork, turkey, V8 Juice, apricots, bananas, avocado, potatoes, oranges and orange juice, watermelon, berries.

Salt is very easy to get back, basically any pre-packaged food product or canned soup has enough sodium to get back what was lost!

Conclusion

Stay aware and stay fit! Having an Ostomy does not mean you can't live well and enjoy the foods you like. With some simple precautions and a good understanding of your digestive system, it is possible to continue to optimize your diet and nutrition to make your pouching more predictable and easier.

Eco-friendly living involves green travel too. Whether you're backpacking or staying at a luxury resort, there are many ways in which you can reduce your impact on the environment, and on local people and their culture. I've put together ten green travel tips that will help you be more eco-friendly while travelling, and can also be incorporated in your daily life.

  • Choose eco-friendly accommodation

I'll be writing reviews on eco-friendly accommodation through Africa, but some simple tips for choosing sustainable accommodation apply.

When deciding on a place to stay, choose an eco-lodge, green hotel or hostel, or stay with a local family-run bed and breakfast or guesthouse.

For those who appreciate the great outdoors, camping is a good eco-friendly option, should you leave no trace on the environment. Visit my article on green camping to find out more.

Another green travel option is to look into couchsurfing. This fantastic website connects people around the world who offer up their couch to fellow travellers, ensuring less of a carbon footprint than staying in a hotel.

What's more you'll benefit from learning about a place from people who actually live there and enjoy more unique experiences. I highly recommend it.

However, if you do decide on a hotel, try minimise your impact on the environment by observing some simple green travel principles, such as turning off lights and your room's heating/cooling, and not wasting food or water. You can also reuse your towels and sheets whenever possible, reducing energy used for laundry.

And try to engage in choices that benefit the local economy such as eating local produce at a small restaurant rather than at your hotel's restaurant or the nearby Macdonalds, or finding a self-catering establishment where you can prepare your own (locally-sourced) food.

  • Choose to travel to places that practice geo-tourism

A new development in ecotravel is geo-tourism. The National Geographic defines geo-tourism as "tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place - its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents".

Thus geo-tourism is green travel that promotes conservation of culture, history and the environment, protecting the character of a destination and leaving it unspoiled for future generations.

To invest in a place, try stopping there for a few days, purchasing local produce and crafts, and potentially volunteering or helping the community. Exploring the area by foot or with a mask and a snorkel are probably the best ways to connect with nature while minimising damage.

  • Travel lightly

Carrying less with you means using less fuel, whether travelling by car, bus or plane. So carefully consider what you pack before you leave and include only what is truly necessary. You'll benefit from the freedom and ease of having less to carry whilst helping the environment through your efforts to travel green.

  • Use reusable bags or containers

Pack a reusable carrier bag made of jute or coir, to keep on you while travelling. Also invest in a couple of reusable containers for your toiletries.

  • Before leaving the house unplug everything and turn off your heating/cooling

Unplug all your appliances and charges - electronics, even while on standby, still use a tremendous amount of power. Absolutely everything that recharges will continue to use power after charging so unplug your TV, microwave and other charging devices and reset your heating/cooling.

  • Carry your own water bottle and refill it from local water sources

Not only is it considered more hygienic to drink bottled water, it's become fashionable. This, despite the fact that we all used to drink from the tap or local water sources before bottled water became widely available.

So it's somewhat surprising to see what a frenzy people can whip themselves into if you so much as suggest drinking local water. Words like diarrhea, constipation, gastrointestinal disorders, parasites, cholera, dysentery and hepatitis (to name a few) are bandied about. But it's cheap and easy to buy a water filter, not to talk about less harmful to the environment.

French childhood friends, Guillaume Combot and Enora Nedelec literally embody green travel, having walked through Africa drinking only local water, sometimes using a piece of cloth as a filter. I'll be posting an article about their experiences shortly.

Moreover, I strongly believe your diet and lifestyle is an indicator of how much illness you will experience when travelling. If you have a strong immune system, built up by a healthy diet and lifestyle, your body should be able to throw off any pathogen.

Why is plastic so bad?

Most people know that plastic is bad, but not really why. Unfortunately, that means that plastic is still widely in use. The main reason that plastic is harmful is that it may take centuries to biodegrade (or break down) and in doing so, separates into small toxic particles that contaminate soil and water.

This means it ends up littering our streets and parks, and ends up in our streams and oceans. Tiny particles of plastic are ingested by fish, and in turn, are ingested by humans, causing untold harm.

And that's the selfish side of it, we haven't got started on the wildlife who eat it as food and are poisoned or choked to death, or the wildlife who get trapped in it and slowly suffocate or starve (birds, camels, fish, etc).

What's more, plastic is made from oil, so using less plastic helps preserve natural resources.

The manufacture of plastic involves many chemicals, many of which have not been sufficiently tested for their toxicological impact on humans or animals. To find out more about the dangers of plastic visit Environmental Health News.

  • Utilise eco-friendly gadgets

From solar-powered phones to backpacks that charge your electronic devices, rechargeable batteries and e-book readers, there are numerous ways to reduce your impact on the environment through innovative applications of technology.

  • Walk, cycle, use public transport or consider a hybrid car

It's pretty easy to put this green travel tip into practice. I've mentioned the couple who walked across the African continent, as an inspiring example of how anything is possible. However, for most people walking across a continent is too much to even contemplate (let alone attempt), so simply consider trying to walk more while exploring a destination.

You can also be more eco-friendly by renting a bicycle, motorbike/scooter or hybrid car. Using public transport such as local buses or trains, also dramatically reduces your carbon footprint. Of course you could choose to not travel at all and rather explore your local area, or simply stay at one destination and explore it more thoroughly.

If you have to fly, book direct flights as taking off and landing uses more fuel.

  • Engage in eco-friendly activities

Taking advantage of activities that do not compromise the environment such as sailing, cycling, windsurfing, surfing, skiing, diving or snorkelling, and hiking are wonderful ways to get to know a destination.

Try and avoid any activities that inflict damage and while hiking use established tracks and paths. Obviously anything powered by fossil fuels such as speedboats, helicopter rides and the like are best avoided.

  • Eat less (or no) meat.

While we all know that global warming is one of society's biggest issues, it may surprise you to hear that the United Nations has identified animal agriculture as the largest single contributor to global warming.

According to a new report by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), livestock generate a whopping 18 percent of human-related greenhouse gas emissions, even more than the gas-guzzling transportation industry.

In fact, the report states that producing half a pound of hamburger for someone's lunch (a patty of meat the size of two decks of cards) releases as much greenhouse gas into the atmosphere as driving a 3,000-pound car nearly 10 miles. Shockingly, despite statistics such as these, global consumption of meat is forecast to double by 2050.

So, I have to conclude that the most important (and neglected) green travel tip to keep mind (whether at home or abroad) is:

By not eating meat and animal products, or limiting our consumption of these products, we reduce our carbon footprint dramatically.

Watch this space to find out why eating vegan, and more raw, uncooked food is the most sustainable.

Green Poop or Green Stool is a condition in which the feces appear with a greenish tint or green colour. It may be normal in breast-feeding infants. But among adults it may not be normal and hence need some investigation. It could be the result of iron supplements taken or eating green leafy vegetables such as spinach. They can also be caused by medical problems, in which case we need to take a closer look. No, not at the poop, but at the problem!

One of the causes of green poop is the food we eat. Vegetables such as broccoli, spinach are rich in chlorophyll, the green pigment found in plants and iron. Absorption of these depends on your iron content in the body and is not absorbed if not needed. This is a simple case of excess supply when the demand is lean and hence the coloured matter goes out unabsorbed. It becomes worse if you are already taking iron supplements for some other medical problem. Often, green, blue or purple artificial colours used in foodstuff could be the cause. Cool aid, popsicles, dyes in ice cream are some examples.

Among medical conditions triggering formation of green poop, the predominant one is stomach disorders. Bile, the yellowish green secretion by the liver gets stored in gall bladder. From here it is regulated and fed to the intestines. When the flow is too fast for effective utilization for digestive process, excess may get into faces colouring it greenish. Other medical conditions such as abdominal pain, stomach cramps, bowel disorders, diarrhoea, gas or indigestion, flu-like symptoms, rectal problems etc are some examples. When you or anyone in your family or a close friend has some of the following, there are chances that the stool may be green and medical aid is called for:

1 Change in consciousness level or alertness
2 Dizziness
3 High fever (more than 101 degrees F)
4 Rectal bleeding
5 Not producing urine
6 Rapid heart rate and /or breathing
7 Respiratory problems such as shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing
8 Rigid board-like abdomen
9 Sudden weakness.

The treatment for green stool is directly dependent on what is the cause. If the cause is food related, the best way is to control it by changes in dietary habits. If the problem lies in other sources such as iron tablets intake etc., your doctor can advise and revise the dosage or suggest supplements along with iron. For other problems associated with digestive system, your doctor only can take appropriate measures after due clinical studies. Other diseases discussed above invariably need medical attention. Once the problem is attended the green stool, which is only nature warning you, will also vanish. Flatulence or gas formation in the intestines at times associated with green stool, which need to be treated depending on whether it is due to bacterial action or not. There are some herbal and nature therapy aids, which may be attempted if the cause for green stool is known to you, like food induced or iron induced. In any case self medication is not to be attempted when the cause is not clear to you.

One of the latest natural fat burners for men and women is the new Acaitrim, a freeze dried combination of anti-oxidants extracted from the Brazilian fruit Acai, and Green Tea, chromium polyniconate and Gymnema sylvestre extracts - all extremely potent natural fat burners.

However, due to the nature of such a high level of natural fat burning compounds, many consumers question the fact as to whether or not Acaitrim fat burners do indeed deliver any side effects or not.

Well it is true that Green Tea is renowned for contributing the slight jitters or racing heart but this is only when it's found in larger volumes, and in combination with caffeine.

Caffeine is also a proven fat burning appetite suppressant, found most notably in its highest volumes in Hydroxycut Max, the makers of the now banned Ephedra Stack. Caffeine whilst effective can also deliver strong side effects, but Acaitrim products however do not contain caffeine.

Alternatively, these natural anti-oxidant based products instead combine a mixture of organic appetite suppressants so as to avoid the dreaded rush or potential fainting spells.

Men should feel no real treatment effects from Acaitrim supplements at all, as having a high natural metabolic rate will mean they will burn off these fat burning effects at a natural rate.

Women however may experience some of the jitters associated with Green Tea due to having a naturally lower metabolism, but with some moderate daily exercise this will not only assist Acaitrim in it's endeavors to burn fat, but also eliminate any chance of potentially experiencing these side effects.

Due to the fact that Acai based supplements are 100% natural, there are none of the additional side effects prescription based fat burners deliver, or any of the lose bowels or diarrhea dieters experience using fat blockers, so due to these attributes it is clear why a natural metabolic booster is the preferred option for many.

If you've been hitting the gym and quitting the fatty foods but still can't seem to get off the pounds, you may want to try an alternative weight loss tool - laxative teas. While laxatives are commonly used for constipation, many people are unaware they can be helpful when people are struggling to get a healthier, slimmer body.

While many know of their usual use, the majority of people are not even aware of what a laxative does, let alone the amazing effects that can result from their use. Laxatives actually prevent a significant portion of food from being absorbed by your body, and since the body is not sending out larger amounts of meals as waste, fewer calories are ending up on the waistline.

The Chinese have used laxative teas for centuries and they are routinely made with all natural ingredients such as Acai berries, Aloe, and Sienna herbs. They may even help in other ways such as improving liver function, lowering blood sugar, and lowering cholesterol.

Even if the tea itself doesn't solve all the body's problems, the fact that a healthy body weight has been achieved will certainly prevent many weight related illnesses and diseases from occurring.

While laxative tea sounds like a wonder drug, users must be careful as too much can cause mild to extremely serious complications. On the mild side is a little cramping or diarrhea, but if that diarrhea occurs for a long time due to an excessive dose of the tea, you may become dehydrated and require immediate medical attention.

So, if someone is looking for a natural way to lose weight and is committed to following instructions, then laxative teas are a great resource. Certainly, a proper diet and regular exercise are needed for any weight loss to be healthy, but if those final ten pounds are refusing to budge or the pounds are coming off too slowly, then give a laxative tea a try.

In two weeks or less you will have visible results. Just in time to put on that new Christmas outfit!

Culinary Sundries

Aztec commoners did not live by maize and beans alone. Tomatoes, avocadoes, and several varieties of squash presented more choices at a meal. Chili peppers were used to flavor foods and were so vital to the Aztec meal that fasting often meant forsaking chilies alone. Ants, grasshoppers, maguey worms, and jumil bugs, all available in large quantities, provided protein. Commoners gathered tequitlatl (blue-green spirulina algae) in large fine nets to provide large harvests of protein. Bernal Díaz del Castillo described the blue-green algae sold as little cakes that tasted like cheese in the markets of Tlatelolco and Tenochtitlan. But these were not the only aquatic goods consumed by the Aztec. Sahagún writes that tadpoles, frogs, and tentnonmichin (thick, large-mouthed fish) were also eaten. Axolotl newts and acocilin (shrimplike crustaceans) offered variety to the diet as well.

Cacao was a popular drink among the royal classes and was a valuable commodity; 100 cacao beans could buy a small mantle. To prepare the beans for drinking, first they would be ground and soaked while being filtered. A frothy head would form on the surface; later this would be discarded. Then water would be added to make a bitter drink. The chocolate drink was so bitter that an assortment of additives would be used to flavor it: flowers, vanilla, honey, and even chile tamed the bitterness of the cacao bean and changed the color of the chocolate drink from white to colors ranging from red and orange to black.

Fruits

The nopalli, or nopal (prickly pear cactus), served as a popular vegetable in the Aztec diet, and Sahagún reported on 13 different varieties in his Florentine Codex. He described the nopal plant as having wide, green branches and a smooth, though thorny, surface that excreted a saplike liquid. The cactus's succulent fruit, the nochtli, or tuna, had a fine and flavorful texture. This fruit, which could be eaten cooked or raw, provided a filling for tamales and was often served as a dessert, though always in moderation. Because the nopal cactus grew throughout Mexico, all Aztec were able to take pleasure in the nochtli fruit; however, only the royal classes enjoyed the more exotic varieties of white, green, and orange nochtli. Quahcamotli and camotli (sweet potatoes); cimatl, a cylindrical or balllike twisted tree root that would cause vomiting and diarrhea if eaten raw; and atzamatzamolli, a bulbous sea plant with white blossoms, were also eaten as fruit.

Animal Foods

Though not a strictly vegetarian society, the Aztec ate mostly from plants that grew in their landscape. Partly due to large population growth and partly due to the lack of many domesticated animals, animal foods were not in significant reserve. Among the domesticated animals were dogs, turkeys (uexolotl), which provided both eggs and meat, and the muscory duck. Archaeologists have found quantities of fish, white-tailed deer, cotton-tailed rabbit, iguana, dog, and turkey bones in trash deposits, although these finds were not in high, dense concentrations. The upper echelon's diet included more variety in animal foods. Rabbit, possum, deer, crane, goose, quail, and eagle meat added variety to the Aztec diet, but these were probably luxuries enjoyed predominantly by the upper class.

When an abnormal strain of bacteria enters the body's system, antibodies within the system will attempt to attack these foreign bodies. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are tell-tale signs of the body fighting an infection. The body's natural defense is to purge the system from all bacterial and abnormal substances that invade it.

What Causes These Symptoms?

Nausea, diarrhea and vomiting are not really diseases by themselves. All these of these are common symptoms of infections and are very commonly seen in children. The most common factor that causes these symptoms is a viral infection of the stomach or intestine. Sometimes, these can also be caused by bacteria or some other parasite.

Some of the illnesses that can trigger off any one or all three of the above symptoms include:

• Urinary tract infection
• Ear infection
• Strep throat infection
• Allergy to some kind of food usually dairy products or wheat
• Sinus or respiratory infection
• Side effects from certain type of medication
• Reyes syndrome

How to Calm these Symptoms

Vomiting, nausea and diarrhea can be calmed and soothed with the proper medication as well as by natural processes. The most important thing of all is to remember stay hydrated and prevent dehydration. When a child has diarrhea or vomiting, they tend to lose a lot of fluids and if the symptoms go on for a long time, this can lead to dehydration which can be very dangerous.

If your children have any of the above symptoms, make sure they drink lots of fluids even if they insist they are not thirsty. When considering fluids, the best and safest fluid is water. It is best to avoid any type of sugary drinks or aerated drinks as the sugar draws even more water from the body, which eventually increases the risk of getting dehydrated.

Know When It's Time To See The Doctor

While mild bouts of diarrhea, vomiting or nausea can be managed and treated at home, if it shows no signs of abating it is important to consult with a doctor as soon as possible. There are certain signs that cannot be ignored and if your child shows any of these signs, a visit to the doctor is definitely called for. These signs include:

If the vomiting follows a severe injury to the head

Stools or vomit are green in color. This is probably due to the presence of bile.

Distended abdomen with severe abdominal cramps and pain
Seizures or convulsions

Lethargy

Dehydration, even if it is mild dehydration. Do not wait till your child is severely dehydrated as this could have dangerous consequences.

If you are considering using green tea supplement capsules, there are a number of different factors that you should take into consideration. Some of the things that you should consider are what the benefits of green tea supplements include, as well as if there are any risks that are involved.

One of the main benefits that can be associated with green tea leaf extract is the effect that it has proven to aid in weight loss. Green tea leaf extract and supplements made from them, for the most part, are completely natural. They do not include any unnatural or dangerous ingredients or chemicals, although the caffeine in them can cause some people to have the jitters.

The two main reasons for which they help you lose weight is by raising your metabolism through a substance called EGCG, as well as providing you with energy that is gained through the caffeine found in these supplements.

For people who are sensitive to caffine, the benefits of green tea leaf extract via supplements can be obtained in decaffeinated form.

Another main benefit that green tea supplement capsules have been espoused to have is the prevention of cancer. Some of the types of cancer which green tea supplements have been argued to prevent include breast cancer, prostate cancer and gastric cancer. However, the main cancer that they are known to prevent is colon cancer. Green tea supplements have also been shown to be helpful in soothing skin disorders, particularly ones that have been caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays. Some of these disorders include skin cancer, as well as sunburn.

However, it's important to note that the last word is not out with respect to green tea and cancer....and its benefits for cancer may be overblown in light of current reseach.

Green tea has also been shown to possibly help reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. Indirectly, green tea may benefit cardiovascular disease, and help guard against heart attacks and stroke.

There are a number of other things that green tea supplement capsules may be beneficial for, including fighting free radicals in the body because of their highly potent antioxidant content.

Some of the things that green tea is often recommended to treat include stomach disorders, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches. Certain diseases are argued to benefit as well, such as remission from Crohn's disease. Parkinson's is another condition that may be helped by the use of green tea.

Green tea leaf extract make up at least one 170 milligrams of most green tea supplements, but usually a whole lot more. This extract is one of the most beneficial ingredients in green tea supplements, as it is shown to provide many antioxidants which can help aid in both weight loss as well as the prevention of cancer. It is one of the most highly beneficial ingredients in most green tea supplement capsules.

One of the benefits that green tea has is the fact that it is safe to use. Some people have tested this theory by drinking up to twenty cups a day, and not having any ultimately serious side effects. Some of the minor side effects include diarrhea, insomnia and restlessness. If you want to be as safe as possible with this, make sure that you find a green tea leaf extract supplement that is decaffeinated...because you'll avoid the jitters and still retain the antioxidant benefits of the green tea.

Many people do not believe in taking green tea supplements when you can just drink one to two cups daily. However, if you are the type of person who lives an active lifestyle and is always on the go, green tea supplements are probably a lot more convenient for you. Whichever you decide to use, it is good to know that both are beneficial to your health.

If you are looking for a supplement to help you lose weight or maintain better health for yourself all together, then chances are that green tea supplement capsules are for you.

Diarrhea though benign is often uncomfortable and inconvenient. In cases when diarrhea is caused by the intake of junk or tainted foods or due to intestinal infections, it is best to allow nature to take its own course. This is because the body is itself getting rid of the causative factors. However, it is always wise to prevent dehydration by taking plenty of fluids to replace the lost electrolytes.

Since some over-the-counter medicines taken for diarrhea cause constipation, it is better to opt for natural and home remedies for diarrhea.

The most common home remedy advocated for diarrhea is to follow the BRATTY diet. It stands to signify bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, tea and yogurt. Most doctors too recommend this diet because it effectively helps to bulk up the intestines and some of these foods have a slightly constipating effect.

Green tea is very good for adults and the rice that should be used is brown rice because it has high dietary fiber content and lessens diarrhea. The toast that should be eaten should be one that is made of wheat and butter and jam should not be added to the toast because it may only worsen diarrhea.

Chamomile tea helps to reduce the discomforts caused by diarrhea. For example, the intake of this tea helps to reduce cramping and to reduce the irritation and inflammation caused by diarrhea.

Lemon juice is also a home remedy for diarrhea. Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice in a cup of hot water shows favorable results.

Dried raspberry leaves are a good natural remedy for diarrhea. They should be soaked in 2 cups of hot water and left for half an hour. It should be then strained and taken throughout the day. Blackberry juice is also a good natural remedy and should be taken every frequently according to the intensity of the discomforts.
